Meet Ashley Mims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Mims. 

Hi Ashley, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve always been the planner! Whether it’s a backyard BBQ or a cousin’s babyshower, I’m always the go-to get events together. Decorating has always been my passion, it’s just something I LOVE TO DO! 

Covid came and it took us all so fast. People were losing jobs, we had to stay inside it was such a depressing time. So, like many I started to brainstorm on what I could do to bring in extra income. I played around with a few ideas and they were a hit for a few months then fell off unfortunately. So just one day in a mid-day conversation with my friend I said I’m about to start decorating parties and there came birth to The Sleepover Club. 

Everyone was confined to the house for the most part so I came up with the idea of bringing the party to you in the comfort of your own home using something people were already doing…Slumber parties. A coworker let me do a trial run for her daughter’s birthday party. I posted it on social media and instantly it was a hit! I was getting inboxes left and right about the service. I never had a business so I was really learning as I went, but it has really opened a lot of doors for me and given me great exposure. 

So, I did that for about a year then I started receiving request to decorate actual events so we launched our sister company The A-List Party Services. Both have kept me busy and I’m forever grateful. I’ve had opportunities to service some big names in the fashion and beauty industry here around the DFW. I would have never thought that I would be able to do something I love and establish a lucrative business from it. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I mentioned I’ve never had a business so I basically had to show myself the ropes and I’m still learning. A lot of trial and error seeing what works and didn’t work for the company. But now it’s smooth sailing for the most part. Like any other company, we hit some hurdles at times but it’s all about how you overcome it. 

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So, The Sleepover Club specializes in the at-home glamping experience. We bring in individual tents and decorate them in your theme of choice to turn your traditional Sleepover to an over-the-top extravaganza. In addition to that we also do outdoor picnic setups for couples and larger parties. 

The A-List Party Services does everything PARTY, from coordination to design. We specialize in event decor for weddings, babyshowers, birthdays, and private events. 

I think what separates me is I’m so inviting with my clients; you really get that homegirl/sister feel with me. I treat everybody like family. To this day I have clients that just reach out to me just because or have made me their go-to for any and everything they have all because of the customer experience they get here. 

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
Don’t give up! There were many days especially in early stages where more money was going out than was coming in and I honestly wanted to throw in the towel. But if it’s something your passionate about and love doing push thru it because the reward is far greater.
