Conversations with Ryan Vasquez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Vasquez.

Hi Ryan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
When I first started RoM-TUJ, it took me countless hours of research finding the who’s who in the Texas underground metal circuit, not to mention the fun part of listening to hours of tracks and albums daily. Once the writing process began (interviews/reviews/promotions), and going to shows to meet the artists, developing relationships, and networking so I’m not just an internet entity, it grew from there. Yet, this work is never over and I’m not done growing.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Applying what I’ve learned in my studies and training in school was just the beginning. Being organized and professional takes serious work. Especially on how I wanted myself and my page to be represented. After all, some writers and critics receive a lot of scrutiny for the words or content they choose and attitudes they demonstrate. I’m not looking to “fluff piece” my opinions, honesty is key. I believe there is a way to be respectful and still express criticism.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Republic of Mosh-Texas Underground Journal is my site where local and signed metal artists from across the state of Texas receive exposure, having their music examined, discussed, and shared and their stories brought to light for fans and other artists to study. But it doesn’t just stop at the music. Other national acts that welcome local support, venues-owners and staff, supporters, record labels, promoters, manufacturers, all graphic artists, and all other entities which support the scene also receive exposure for the sake of the readers to have all this info at their fingertips without the hassle of searching for it themselves.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Anyone wanting to reach out for any reason can email me at ratedrv79@gmail.com or message me through my site’s Facebook or Instagram page.
