Rising Stars: Meet Lindsey Carmichael

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Carmichael.

Hi Lindsey, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m 55 years old & I started tattooing 31 years ago in California, where I’m from. I was exposed to tattoos through the music scene I’ve been involved in since I was 12.

Through many years of travel and meeting other tattooers, I met my friend Oliver Peck, who owns the shop I work at here in Texas, Elm Street Tattoo.

I love Dallas & am happy to be here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Through tattooing over the last 3 decades, I’ve seen all of the best things in my life, and also the wildest stuff. I have experienced the ordinary struggles that any person would in this period of time. None of them due to tattooing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I tattoo full-time with no breaks in my entire career. I specialize in all types of traditional tattooing. I am most proud of the amount of time I‘ve been doing my chosen job without any interruptions, despite whatever has been thrown in the path. I have encountered a few tattooers in the past 5-10 years who are fame-obsessed social climbers with zero integrity.

When I started getting tattoos and then doing them, most of these people were not alive yet.

I pride myself on knowing what I’m capable of and never pushing myself or my work on anyone. I’ve stayed true to myself and never have pretended to be something I’m not for status or attention.

When I came into tattooing, integrity, and realness was a must.

It’s sad that a lot of that is missing now due to self-centered tattooers who lack any understanding of the real world.

What makes you happy?
Doing good tattoos, on a day-to-day basis, and my children keep me happy and proud and make me want to keep going.
