Daily Inspiration: Meet Nicole Hector

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Hector.

Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I decided to attend school for Esthetics to gain more knowledge and advance my career as a Makeup Artist with a license. While in school, I did learn more about makeup but I fell in love with skincare and the ability to enhance people’s lives through spa treatments. Once I was licensed, I worked for a corporate skincare company for a while but it wasn’t fulfilling. I knew that I had so much more to offer and I wanted to create a comforting, safe, luxurious spa where women could truly relax and prioritize their self-care.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Although extremely rewarding, this journey has not been without some struggles. There is no blueprint for building a business, especially building a luxury spa business as a black woman. I have had to learn through trial and error. I am discovering new things every single day. One of the biggest things that I’ve had to deal with is just convincing myself during the hard times that I can do this. When things go wrong or not to plan, I have to remind myself of why I chose this path and the benefits that I am providing to my clients. Remembering that the hardships are worth it and the reward is going to be so much bigger than the difficulties. Overall, I can say that I’ve made a lot of mistakes but I’ve had a lot of success as well.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As an Esthetician, I have been trained in multiple specialties but I chose to focus on facials. That’s what I’m known for, I provide amazing and unique facial experiences. It’s not just about me putting products on someone’s face, my integrative facial services also include energy healing, chakra balancing, and meditation to support the mind/body equilibrium and reduce stress. I am proud that I have been able to make a name for myself and support my family by sharing my gifts with others. I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a curious child. My favorite question was “why?”. Anything that I was interested in I had to learn everything about it. I still am that way. My interests quickly become passions, even if only for a short time. As a child/teen, I never saw myself doing what I’m doing now. I never thought this would be my chosen career. What I did know in my younger years was that I was going to be someone who made a big difference in people’s lives. I contemplated careers in nursing and social work in my teens. I was always wanting to help others. I still do want to be a person who makes a big difference in the lives of others, however, that may come about.
