Life & Work with Nick Patel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Patel.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
My ultimate passion has always been to help people in some form or fashion. I started out in the health and fitness industry around 2011 with the hopes of fulfilling my passion – and I did. I had an amazing career not just around dumbbells and treadmills, but around break barriers with my clients. Helping them from weight loss journeys, to simply just being able to spend more life with their family. I climbed from being a Personal Trainer to management around multiple locations across DFW. Around 2020, I knew it was time for a change. I craved more and wanted to make a different kind of impact.

Real Estate was something that was always on my mind. I like to think of myself as a people person. I love numbers. I love contracts. I love negotiations. It was almost a no-brainer to make the transition over to the field.

I enrolled into online courses at home when the world shut down. After the first chapter, I was hooked. I channeled my inner high school mindset and crash-studied all my courses in 6 weeks, and shortly got licensed a month later. I walked out of the testing center, a flimsy piece of paper in my hand saying that I passed and thought to myself “Ok. Now what?” I felt lost. I had structure and a schedule with my studying but now that it was over, I had no idea what to do.

I quickly went home and googled “Best Real Estate Brokerages in Frisco” and Monument Realty came up. I was a fan of The Star, where our headquarters are, fan of the Cowboys, fan of their growth potential, and thought to myself, “Sure why not. Let’s check it out.”

I walked into the interview a bit nervous. I’ve been on the other side of interviews, but it’s been a while since I’ve been interviewed. I walked in and got a chance to sit with Jason Cryer, our current Director of Education and my personal friend and mentor. After meeting with him and learning everything, Monument had to give, I knew I had found my new home.

After being in the Real Estate field for 1.5 years, I craved my passion for helping all over again. I wanted to do more. Make another impact. Coaching and Developing has always been something I took a lot of pride in. I was approached to join our Talent Acquisition Team and Coaching Team.

Now, February 2023, I have been able to help multiple clients across DFW move into their dream home. Buyers, Sellers, Investors, Landlords, Tenants, you name it. Along with that, I’m also able to impact lives of newly licensed agents in hopes they don’t walk out of their testing centers, lost and confused with a flimsy piece of paper in hand. Being a part of our education programs at Monument Realty (SEALS and Rangers) has been the puzzle piece that I added in to complete my vision.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a very smooth road filled with bumps along the way (if that even makes sense).

Here – I’ll talk about one of many struggles, but what I think is a common one:

I came from a W2 position where you have District Managers, Regional Managers, EVPs, CEOs giving you tasks to do throughout the day/week/month. It spoils you. You don’t know it at the time. There is structure. There’s a list of things to do when you get in by 9 am, and it has to be done when you leave by 6 pm. There are conference calls, checklists, and meetings SET IN PLACE FOR YOU by the “higher ups”.

When you’re in Real Estate, you are every position from front-line team member all the way to CEO and everything in between. You have to think of your own day/week/month, plan your business. The CEO in you sets the checklists, and the Front-Line Team Member in you executes the checklists. You do it all. Luckily, I had an amazing leader in the fitness industry, Cory Hay, who challenged me every single day, Lol. At the time, I didn’t know it, but he was carving me into being my own boss.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Monument Realty, I’ve been a Top Producer and also a Culture Award Winner. Let’s put Top Producer aside because I think you hear about that one a lot. It’s a numerical based award. It’s easy to measure.

Culture Award Winner. How do you measure behavior? This is where the challenge lies…

This one tugged on my heartstrings. It is voted from within the firm by your peers. Winning the Culture Award was something I can’t put into words in this article. I was shocked, humbled, emotional, and fired up all within the 2 seconds I heard my name called in front of 800+ Agents. I set the bar high for myself and I plan to keep increasing it every day. Our culture is to be Positive, Productive, and Professional, and for me to walk away with that award… I knew I was doing something right.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
