Today we’d like to introduce you to Derek LaCaze.
Hi Derek, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I went to college at Northwestern State University and Graduated at Louisiana State University. I started my writing and directing early in life writing, producing, and directing stage plays. I didn’t pursue this because I still was following my dreams of being a Professional Football Player in which I played Canadian Football, Arena football, coached youth, high school, college, and arena. Once I finished that, I resorted to Mental Health Counseling & running my large-scale catering company. Life was awesome but I was missing my true calling. So, I begin to write, I ended up writing and publishing 9 best-selling books, 7 Erotic Novels, and 1 Children’s Book. I am also the CEO of LaCaze Films, so I took one of the books I Authored and filming an Independent Film. How To Get Away With Cheating, Sins Of Jasmine, Blackcock Tales, Hardcore Bachelorette, Innocent Obsession, Black Couples Fantasy, Black Sex Challenge, and my Children’s book, Dad, Am I Ugly.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been far from smooth due to the pandemic, it forced me to shut down two of my restaurants so facing that hardship makes it hard to complete film projects and books being independently. I keep pushing, and with a lot of dedication and hard work, we start production at the end of February.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I take a lot of pride being a Black Author and Film Producer. The success of my books has allowed me to change other people’s lives around me. I spend a lot of time speaking around the country, making appearances, and book signings. I WANT TO FOCUS on my current film Black Couples Fantasy.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I don’t have any particular app, Book, or podcast that inspire except my children.
