Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Aron.
Jake, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I wanted some gear to represent Dallas while going to college in Missouri. I went looking for a hat with the Dallas skyline, but I couldn’t find one to my liking. That’s when I decided to make one myself.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This is my first real business, so I’m still figuring out the ropes as I go along. There have been some struggles, but none that I haven’t been able to overcome with the support of those around me. Even with the struggles, I’m having a blast.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Along with running, This Is My City, I am studying strategic communications at the University of Missouri. Prior to starting This Is My City, I worked at Walt Disney World as part of the Disney College Program. Right before I left for the program, I set a Guinness World Record for the most baseball ground balls fielded in one minute.
I have added a charity aspect to the business. This Is My City will now donate 10% of profits from each hat to a charity in the specific community the hat represents. For example, when someone buys a Houston hat, 10% of profits from that hat will go to the Houston Holocaust Museum. When someone buys a Dallas hat, 10% of profits from that hat will go to the SPCA of Texas, which is headquartered in Dallas.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned so far is that there is no better time than the present. I know a lot of people-myself included- who put things off because it isn’t the perfect time. Well, I believe there is never going to be a “perfect time.” And if we procrastinate, then we may let a golden opportunity slip by.
