Daily Inspiration: Meet Sodi Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sodi Moore.

Hi Sodi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After getting my undergrad in dance, I was in the process of exploring different performance opportunities & burlesque ended up the best fit for me. I was inspired to begin burlesque by being a regular patron of Denton’s Glitterbomb & stuck with this performance style after some introspection during COVID lockdown. Since committing to being a nightlife performer, I’ve been able to have full autonomy over my performances & public persona. I’ve picked up several gogo dancing, modeling, & pro domme opportunities as a result of meeting different nightlife folx through performing in surrounding states & I wouldn’t change a thing! I’m obsessed with providing patrons with an escape by exuding essences of varying femme fatale adjacent themes whenever I perform at an event. It’s truly rewarding whenever I receive feedback that my work inspired or affirmed something for an audience member!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Since I’m newer to the nightlife performer scene, there’s been some struggles navigating longtime existing relationships. All types of folx enjoy burlesque as a performance art & finding who brings me the most joy to work with & for has been an ongoing, complex process. I’m still discovering my absolutes for boundaries while refining my craft but have enjoyed meeting different people the community nonetheless!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a BIPOC neo-burlesque performer whose numbers always include a hint of noir, taboo, fetish, or alternative lifestyles. I’m known for my slowburn style & occasionally I whip out some solid floorwork.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Support local shows/festivals & find out who produces them, then follow them on their socials! Talk to them at events & ask how you can help w/ their shows. Observe what they look for in a performer (on & offstage) & practice practice practice. Consume all the burlesque history & current burlesque resources you can (ESPECIALLY YouTube & 21st-century burlesque articles). Be specific & true to your brand, so you know what audience you want to market yourself towards. & of course, take dance classes, then record yourself, even if they’re just YouTube. Being able to self-correct is so valuable! Also, thrifting costume pieces & Amazon helps cut initial costuming costs. I’ve found some of my favorite gowns for $10!
