Today we’d like to introduce you to Dora Toma.
Hi Dora, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
It all started when I was in my mid-20s, when I would see my health getting worse and worse. I was not getting answers from the conventional doctors, so I got introduced to a Functional Medicine Practitioner who not only helped me manage all the symptoms I had and feel better but taught me how to support my body to stay healthy with simple diet and lifestyle habits. Once I start seeing the results, I was amazed, so I began to learn more and decided to become a health coach and help others feel better and live a life without pain.
Fast forward to 2018, I became pregnant for the first time. I was really excited, but as long as that pregnancy lasted, I couldn’t enjoy any moment of it. It was a very difficult one, with lots of pain and complications. At that time, I was in a stressful job that I was not feeling happy in, which added more stress and worry. Unfortunately, after carrying my daughter for 23 weeks, I went in premature labor and lost her.
At that time, I knew a lot about how to love a healthy life, but I realized that I didn’t know enough for fertility and pregnancy. That was the moment I decided to specialize in women’s health and fertility. First was to help myself conceive again and have a healthy baby at term but also to help other women avoid as much as possible the pain that I had to go through with losing my daughter.
Right now, I have an almost 3-year-old daughter, and I’ve been helping 150 women get pregnant by simply making small modifications to their diet and lifestyle, which supported their body be fertile and carry the baby to term.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, the lost of my first daughter was a huge shock. No woman imagines she will lose her child, whether it’s early in the pregnancy, later, or any time after birth. The pain that experience caused me I was able to use it to help other women.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Functional Medicine Health Coach specialized in Women’s health and Fertility. On one side, I work with women who are in their reproductive age who want to balance their hormones, have pain-free cycles, and feel good in their bodies; then I also work with women who are struggling to conceive and want help to achieve a healthy pregnancy, whether they are working with a fertility clinic or not.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I would turn back the time and talk with my 20-year-old self, I would tell her these four things: Eat your breakfast with lots of protein and veggies
Get enough sleep every night – sleep is how we preserve our youth and balance the hormones
Being constantly stressed is going to accelerate aging and will affect your ability to conceive – take frequent breaks
Get rid of all the endocrine disrupter chemicals in the personal care products, perfume, scents, and cleaning products
