Conversations with Tauri Partin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tauri Partin.

Hi Tauri, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I was born in California, adopted, and raised in Washington State. I moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico, and started school at a liberal arts school, Santa Fe University of Art in Design. Two years later, the school shut down, and I finished my education at UNT. After graduation, I started doing freelance work with local DFW design studios to create branding for clients. I then moved on to work at Mizzen+Main’s in-house creative team. I left the fashion brand to venture towards Art Direction and styling. I am currently an Art Director at Agency Habitat, as well as a freelance stylist.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been an adventure to say the least! I grew up overweight and was bullied for it until high school. I’ve struggled a lot with imposter syndrome and thinking I could never be in the fashion world because of this.

I started off wanting to be a painter and work as an artist. There was a lot of people navigating me away from that, which was a blessing in disguise. I feel as though my path wasn’t always drawn out for me but slowly presenting itself along the way. I have learned to trust the process much more through this.

All my struggles, both personal and professional, have made me into a stronger person and helped me have a wider perspective of life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started off as a graphic designer doing branding, which slowly evolved into art direction. I am slowly taking my styling work and melting it with art direction to help move into art direction/creative direction for clothing brands. I am currently interested in doing consultations to help others understand their thoughts and feelings and ask questions to help them solve the internal confusion and lack of inspiration.

I am most proud of my ability to consult with others and really understand their visions and needs to help them become a more evolved version of themselves/ their brand. I tend to be a little bit edgier than the average and like to push boundaries when I can. I never have a lack of creative ideas or love for creativity!

Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk it! Be smart and take time to really think about it, but if your heart has been truly hurting for something, GO FOR IT. My motto is: know yourself and adjust! I have quit multiple jobs without having a backup because it did not align with my heart, values, or ethics. I have always trusted myself to be able to bounce back or figure it out. I have never regretted taking a risk. The only thing I have ever regretted was not taking action. Keep moving, don’t stay stagnant. We have this life and it’s ours for the taking. I truly believe you can do whatever your heart desires, just remember it won’t be easy.
