Today we’d like to introduce you to Shey Jennings.
Hi Shey, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Right out of high school, all I ever wanted to do was fashion. Graduation came and that was my ticket to freedom; so, I thought. Turns out the closest fashion program was over 110 miles away, which meant I’d have to move, and not only did I need to move, but I needed to make it high enough on the list to get accepted into the program. Being that I was the only one in my family to reach for such a dream, time passed, and I gave it up for the “easy” life. I switched my major and from general studies to science, human sciences to be exact I studied and aligned with careers that suited my degree. I found myself landing a job in the most underrated job ever. A nurse’s assistant for critical care or CCU, I believe I learned more about people there than life outside could ever teach me. At some point I found myself caring more about the people and their stories than my actual “career” itself. And in their stories, I kept finding myself at a crossroads of what life was really about. Fast forward a couple of years, and I had moved to Fort Worth just before the pandemic. And like clockwork the crossroads came for me once again, this time in the waiting room of landing the highest position I’d ever had before. Just like a ribbon in the wind it was gone, the pandemic had settled in, and there was nowhere left to go, I had to make a decision to either follow my heart or follow my brain. Without hesitation, I chose them both. I built my business on the backs of my scientific knowledge and on my passion to be creative. And from the ashes came The Firefly Box. A preservative-free skincare line that not only used ingredients backed by science and ancient nutrition but it also became home for people to feel powerful in caring for their bodies.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Much like any story. I don’t believe anything that we really care about comes without a steep price. After realizing that what I really wanted meant that I had to shed a lot about myself. One of the biggest things I had to shed was leaving my “easy” life path to a completely new one. From working for others to solely working for myself. It was in those stages did I really understand what it really meant to be fearless.

One thing that really sets The Firefly Box apart is understanding the balance of nature, science, and overall healing. We do all that while doing away with commercial tactics like using fillers, preservatives, and harmful chemicals that can affect our health in the longer on. In return, we create a transparent label on every product to display every ingredient so that our clients can identify our ingredients with ease and familiarity. I believe as the world continues to grow greener, we will be there to help guide clients to a more natural skincare routine with the nurturing and ever-multi-beneficial sustainable support of nature.
What do you think about luck?
I believe all the luck comes from connecting with such an amazing community base. The support and feedback, not to mention the wholesale orders The Firefly Box gets, definitely creates a place in me to say that I feel lucky and grateful to cross paths with some really amazing individuals. They have become my tribe and supporters in many ways, and it is through them that I truly feel empowered.
