Conversations with Hector Guerrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hector Guerrero.

Hi Hector, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From the depths of Oak Cliff, I came into a beautiful family surrounded by joy & pain. Being raised by the city allowed me to see its beauty along with the many imperfections of a troubled neighborhood.

My name is Hector Alejandro Guerrero. On many summer days, I’d hear the bass boosting from impalas as me and my buddies cycled our bikes all over the area, causing mischief trouble & making silly videos on our cheap JVC camera. To look back, it brings my heart warmth. When you’re broke, you get creative. This pattern of electrifying our minds to do something when we had almost nothing has led to the life of fullness I have now.

I vowed to never go to college, trialed & errored with a camera for years, watched countless youtube videos, & bartended for an entire year to pay my bills as I started my own video company. In this process, I gave so much of my time & gift to the earth because I felt led to.

In the midst of generosity, so much fruit came from it. I now work as the producer for The Basement Podcast with Tim Ross, that we grew from 0 subscribers to 219,000 subscribers in 8 months. As I continue to do other powerful projects, the biggest assignment on my life is now building this podcast that we produce & are a voice on the show as well.

My entire life is summed up in giving when you have ALMOST nothing. That is what opened doors for me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The major dark clouds that surrounded me in my process of growth is my mental health. As a 25-year-old now, I look back at an 11-year-old Hector who began to question his existence & find the solution would be suicide.

What 11-year-old is supposed to think that? This has been an ongoing struggle since then, and my answer has always been the same- I have a purpose in life. Though I may want to leave the earth, I am called to fulfill that purpose in creating content that reaches the world & that one kid who is scrolling on their phone wanting to end it all.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a producer & director for online influencers. I produce The Basement Podcast with Tim Ross & was able to film & edit my first ever documentary for Tim Ross.

We grew the channel from 0 to 232,000 subscribers in less than 8 months, have over 1,800 members on youtube who support us financially every month, & have grown Tims IG, youtube, & TikTok simultaneously.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Hustling & grinding works. The reps put in on countless hours builds muscles that most people will never have. All the work done in the dark built my integrity for when the light shined on everything, & the doors opened. Now I’m able to find rest & rhythms with the built-in work ethic that took years to train.
