Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Thrive n Play is a pediatric occupational therapy clinic in Lewisville. We offer private clinic-based and community-based occupational therapy for infants and children. Our mission is simple; we help good kids lead great lives! We specialize in supporting children with feeding and sensory processing challenges. More simply, we help infants and children participate in the activities they need to grow, develop, and thrive: eat, dress, groom, bathe, sleep, play, learn, and build relationships. We have extensive experience working with children with a variety of genetic and developmental diagnoses, including prematurity, autism, cerebral palsy, and Down Syndrome. Our occupational therapy team has worked in premier pediatric hospital systems and is experienced in working with some of the most medically complex children in DFW. What truly sets us apart is the family experience. We want every member of your family to feel at home and be a part of your learning experience at Thrive n Play. True progress happens in the home. It is our job to partner with you and equip you with the tools you need to build a happy and healthy home in any circumstance.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Thrive n Play?
April is a big month for Thrive n Play!
April 17, we will begin accepting patients in our Next Move Clinic on-site at Thrive in Play. Next Move is an expertly developed NICU follow-up program pioneered by Thrive n Play and Dr. Jena Schultz, board-certified pediatric physical therapist and owner of Driving Development. In case you are unfamiliar with this abbreviation, NICU is a neonatal intensive care unit. This program is for families who are expecting a NICU stay, are currently in the NICU, or are recent NICU graduates. Our mission is to empower families with their next moves so their baby can thrive as they transition home without the medical support and developmental teams they had in NICU. When families come to see us, we are a one-stop shop: physical and occupational therapy at the same time. They will receive a collaborative evaluation and plan to help them determine the next move for their family. If additional support is needed, they can continue a relationship with the providers at a frequency that makes sense for the family, rather than quarterly or yearly check-ins that are provided in larger institutions. Families can contact us directly to inquire or sign up here: https://www.thrivenplay.com/book-online
Additionally, families can now access on-site speech therapy services in partnership with Rachel Terrell, SLP owner of Rooted Therapies. Rooted Therapies offers speech therapy services for families seeking language and feeding therapy.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Networking is about building relationships. It’s more than just exchanging business cards. At Thrive n Play, we choose to network with organizations who are also working to serve DFW families. We stay connected through face-to-face meetings over coffee or a meal, community events, and happy hours. When you get to know people on a personal level, it’s easier to build trust. In the therapy world, connection and collaboration is valued over competition. Networking has enabled us to build a strong community of pediatric providers we trust. We refer out to the providers in this network often. At the end of the day, it’s about the kids! We want to connect our families with the best and brightest to help them achieve their goals.
