Daily Inspiration: Meet Ebonee Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebonee Brown.

Hi Ebonee, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a young girl, I would get picked up after school, and my stepfather would drop me off with my mother where she attended cosmetology classes. Every weekend she would have me at the shop with her, watching her as she would do her clients’ hair. Moving to a different city and not knowing anyone to do my hair is what forced me into this industry.

In 2018 I moved back to Fort Worth and was tired of working for someone else. As a single mother of 3, I had to find balance in motherhood to make a living for me and my children. I ended up attending barber school to add to what I already knew with hair. With being in school full-time, I needed an income, so I started doing locs after school and sometimes weekends.

2021 is when I added Microlocs to my in of business, I study the craft before doing them on myself 5 months later, I took my first client. January 2022 is when I took my first microloc client and have been working 7 days a week at a time! I never understood what it meant to work hard at something to get where I’m at, which is such an honor. I can only thank God for where I’m at in my business.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh my there are struggles all the time, but how would you learn to get better or better your response to these changes. I believe that’s what makes you a better person, makes you a better business owner. I look at every aspect of this whole thing as a steppingstone to the next level.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in micro and traditional locs. I’m beyond proud of me for not giving up and to keep going with hair until I found what worked for me. My severe OCD with hair is what makes me stand out lol my clean parts and grids what sets me apart from others. I will start a client head all over if a piece of hair is in the incorrect place. This is what has assist me in winning an award for best hairdresser last month for a client’s music video.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I listen to Jerry Fowers most times when I’m working, I like to keep positivity in my ear at all times when dealing with other people daily. A lot of times, we don’t know what someone is going through, so I like to be a place of peace, my clients’ therapy place.
