Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Delashaw-Silveira.
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Hi, I’m Lisa The Pepper Lady! I was born and raised in the Bay Area of California, but my family roots are from Texas and Kentucky! I began canning very young in life. I have memories dating all the way back to my childhood in the kitchen with my granny canning with her while my little brothers played outside. So, I guess you can say those memories I shared with her have been able to keep alive by sharing with my daughter and my grandsons. After many years of canning my granny’s recipes for friends and family, I was repeatedly being told I need to start selling my peppers. So, after years of being told this, I decided to take a leap of faith and turn my passion into a small business!
So, how the peppers actually came about they originally were a pickle recipe, and I was getting suggestions of making them a spicy pickle, but I had an even better idea how about jalapeños! A neighbor of mine grew peppers of all kinds, so I asked him if I could possible purchase a bulk order of his organically grown jalapeños to try out a new recipe and the rest is history! I used my granny old pickle recipe and added a few extra little ingredients, and walla The Perfect pepper was created!
Bringing well over 40 years of canning experience, I have finally found the one thing that brings me extreme pride and happiness, and that is serving people all over the United States and doing so by bringing families together by the one thing everyone loves…food!
I was diagnosed with cancer in 2013 went into remission in 2014, and have been cancer free since then. The moment I realized God was blessing me with a second chance I knew I needed to do something that was going to bring me a sense of fulfillment. What started out a little passion of mine has now grown into something so much bigger than I could of ever dreamed. I have been able to put my jar of peppers into so many hands and put smiles on so many faces. With just the first bite, you can tell the quality of my peppers right away only the best organic jalapeños go into each jar I make.
As we’ve recently grown bigger, I have been able to share this dream with my daughter Jaszmine who also grew up canning with myself and her great, great-grandmother (my granny).
We would love the world to know that even if your dream is small, it’s YOUR dream so go out there and get it! Do whatever makes you happy because tomorrow is never promised, and life is too short not to be happy!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a pretty smooth road when it comes to The Perfect Pepper only because once someone tries our peppers, we get nothing but compliments. I can say with pride that word of mouth has been the best marketing for us. We have been blessed with so many loyal customers that the referrals keep rolling in. I would have to say the only “struggle” we have had is from the timid pepper person simply because it’s a Jalapeño!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
To sum it up, I am a creator of all things delicious. I am The Pepper Lady!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Advice I would give to any entrepreneur is do not let anyone make you second guess yourself and what you have to offer to the world. You will not be able to please everyone, and that’s okay because your type of people will find you and support you through any ups and downs in your business!
