Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonya Reyes.
Hi Sonya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I originally decided to pursue my nursing career after wanting to fulfill my passion for helping others. I graduated from the University of Arkansas with my Bachelor of Nursing. During my undergrad, my mother had been battling a neurodegenerative disease called Corticobasal Degeneration. After living in Northwest Arkansas my entire life, I was ready to challenge myself and grow both individually and professionally. Although a tough decision due to my family’s circumstances, I decided to move to Dallas and pursue my nursing career here. I was lucky that both my parents encouraged and supported me making the move.
I worked in a medicine intensive care unit for 4 years while I also pursued my Master of Science to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. I absolutely loved my time as an ICU nurse, and I am so grateful for the experiences that have shaped me into the person I am today. While doing an interview with a nurse practitioner for a school assignment, I was asked why I hadn’t considered aesthetics. I have always admired the confidence that aesthetic treatments instill into a person and therefore I decided to invest into trainings. Needless to say, I fell in love! I have always loved helping others, and aesthetic nursing allowed me to do that on a deeper level. It can be very vulnerable to go to receive a treatment for something that you may be insecure about, and it is so special to see your patient have a smile on their face when you hand them the mirror. I attended countless trainings and still continue to seek out educational opportunities through the NeoWell aesthetic injector program as well as one-on-one trainings. I decided to open my own practice, Lisse Aesthetics, in April of 2022 and finished my master’s degree in August of 2022. It has been amazing to see both Lisse Aesthetics and myself grow over the past year.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. Navigating the business world has been a struggle and a huge learning curve. I’ve dedicated a lot of time and energy towards learning how to best manage my social media and marketing. It has definitely been a humbling experience, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world! It is so important to be uniquely you and to persevere through all the ups and downs. The world of social media has allowed me to grow and network with other businesses and injectors. I am grateful to have had the support of other injectors in the community who have helped me along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them!
