Today we’d like to introduce you to Juniper Saint Butcher.
Hi Juniper, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Honestly, my career in media started when my dad brought home a new DSLR camera. I believe the intention was for it to be a family camera, but I used it so frequently that it really became mine. I was fifteen/sixteen years old, making youtube videos in my childhood bedroom, which surprisingly got some traction during that time. I started watching youtube videos to teach me how to edit and properly use a camera for my cute little DIY tutorials & fashion videos I did. I would explore my small town, taking pictures of my friends at our local plant nurseries and cafes. After a while, I learned there was a broadcast television program I could take in high school, which really jump-started my professional career in filmmaking; I was running around the school district filming interviews, sports games, and exciting events schools put on. Through that class, I made connections that brought me to my first real job as a television editor at 17 years old.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Learning how to freelance all on my own was and IS definitely a challenge. I’m lucky enough to have found mentors over the years who have helped me out, but a lot of learning comes the hard way in this type of work. Nothing cements expectations for yourself, like showing up to shoots without batteries or finding loopholes in your contracts you didn’t even know you had. A lot of the credit for my freelance journey is owed to Jessica Luther Rummel and Danielle Longueville, who have both supported me and given me so much advice over the years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I wear many hats. I am multidisciplinary in photography, videography, video editing & motion graphics, live streaming, and social media content creation. My work is extremely intentional to align with what I’m most passionate about; amplifying unique and diverse voices.
Some people may know me from 18+ artistic oddities I used to create under the moniker “Radically Nude”. Sadly, I do not make art to sell currently, but I have recently turned my old @radicallynude Instagram account into my professional boudoir photography archive.
When I’m not working, you would find me hanging out with my cat Mercury, sewing, crafting like a madman, and listening to my favorite podcasts.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think it’s difficult to achieve any kind of success without drive and charisma. It’s easy to fall out of a passion when you feel a creative block, but pushing through and finding ways to use the tools you have at hand will lead you on a beautiful path.
