Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Rabon.
Lindsey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have had a passion for photography as long as I can remember. I took my first photography class in high school and continued to take photography classes in college, though I finished with a Psychology Major. After college I found myself emerged in the event photography world, traveling the country to photography marathons and triathlons, and even local youth soccer photos. When I was pregnant with my oldest, the weekend work and traveling were going to be much harder and decided to leave my job to pursue my own portrait business.
For a while, I would photography anyone who asked, and had a great time doing so. As I got further along in my business I really found my passion photographing high school seniors. I love telling their stories, making them feel amazing and proud of what they have accomplished. You will still see me photographing the occasional wedding and I always fill my fall with family portraits. That’s the best part of this journey, I get to create and be inspired by whoever is brave enough to step in front of my lens.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Easy is definitely not the word I would use to describe trying to build my business. I am fortunate that my family does rely on my income to survive, and I have an amazingly supportive husband and family that encourage me to push forward. Which gives me fewer obstacles than someone who might need their income to put food on the table. But to say it was without struggles would be a mistake.
I am constantly trying to better my craft and build a sustainable business. It’s difficult to mix art with money, you begin to tie your self-worth to your income and that’s a difficult headspace to be in. It’s been challenging to find the right balance between the two. I consider myself lucky I have the opportunity to experiment and learn what is really best for me and my journey.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Lindsey Rabon Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a portrait photographer, my business is just me, Lindsey. My specialty is definitely high school seniors, but I also offer other portrait and event services. I pride myself on providing beautiful, timeless images that really showcase my clients’ personalities.
I know for many people, photo session can be very stressful, so I like to take a hands-on approach. I offer all my clients and in-person consultation to chat about what their ideal photo session is like, and we work to find a location and wardrobe that really brings that vision to life. I also provide finished artwork, which can be harder to find a photographer. I want my clients to have a full-service experience and leave with beautiful images they can enjoy daily.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future is just to just growing my brand and being able to provide more clients with my service. I still have young kids, and really want to take my business to the next level once they are a little bit older. But I never plan to change the way I offer my services, which is very personable and hands on.
