Hi Shana-Lee, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I have always been big on self-care before it became a buzzword. I made it a point to take time for myself, do self-care challenges, and read articles to make sure I invest in myself. Breathe & Exhale 360 was birthed from my birthday trip. I had planned a personal retreat (solo trip) for my birthday to Fredericksburg, TX. While planning my birthday trip, I put together a goodie bag just like you would get when you attend a retreat. It had a journal, candle, comfy socks, and much more. I had the entire weekend planned out with different relaxing activities.
My friends always asked how do I prioritize my “me time”? I continued to hear women complain about not having time to do self-care or how making time for themselves, so I thought, what if I created a box such as my goodie bag from my personal retreat that brought self-care for women at home? Breathe and Exhale 360 launched in October 2021.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been easy. I am a new business owner, so the learning curve of owning a business. The biggest obstacle is getting comfortable being the face and in front to share my business. I am the person that has been behind the scenes for so many years or helping other people accomplish their dreams, so being the spokesperson and in the front was uncomfortable, but I am getting increasingly comfortable being in the front.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Breathe & Exhale 360 is a quarterly self-care subscription box that caters to the whole woman! Breathe & Exhale 360 takes care of the woman’s mind, body, and soul to remind women to take a moment to breathe and exhale for themselves. Each box is put together with self-love and care. The products are personally hand-picked by the CEO and Founder of B&E. The box will include a variety of full-size products, financial tips, and our B.E. Moment. Our B.E. Promise is to have a product(s) in each box from a small business owner.
Breathe & Exhale 360 provides women with an experience to practice self-care at home.
We are proud of our theme quarterly boxes and how we explore self-care from the woman’s perspective.
Breathe & Exhale 360 understands women wear multiple hats, but there are barriers in their life that can prevent them from practicing self-care. Those barriers may be time, finances, children, and other factors. We make it a point to share creative ways to incorporate self-care if time is a barrier, provide financial tips, and ways to include the entire family in practicing self-care.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I wholeheartedly believe in mentorship and networking. I have created a goal to attend two networking events monthly. I have also joined organizations that are specific to entrepreneurship to personally grow as a business owner and to create a community/network with other entrepreneurs. I attend conferences or summits to help grow my own knowledge in specific areas and network with other attendees.
My mentor is another subscription box owner that is always a phone call away to help me navigate being a business owner, and she can relate as a subscription box business owner. She has encouraged and poured into me along the way.
It is important to find a mentor and network within your area of expertise and outside of your area of expertise as it is important to be around like-minded people and people that have achieved what you want to achieve. You need to hear the conversations of people in a different space, so you can elevate yourself. It is not to intimidate you but to grow you.
