Hi Cody, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my commercial real estate career right out of high school for a small local firm because nobody would hire someone without a college degree. I started by leasing office and industrial buildings and over time grew into investment sales. I now run a team of 6 of the best agents in Texas, and we solely specialize in selling office and industrial buildings across DFW and Texas. Our team was one of the top teams in Texas for office and industrial last year, and we are innovating the way the office building sector is being transacted.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It was not a smooth road at all but that helped shape me into a better man. Early on this was a college degree-driven industry and “who you know” so by not having that made it hard to even get a job. Also, most people who get in either know people or have family to help give business, and with my background and growing up in mean streets of Grand Prairie I had a longer road but I believe by not having that head start and growing up with less, it made me more hungry and passionate than everyone else. So, by pure grit and determination, I just had to outwork everyone. I found a small local firm that was desperate for agents and convinced the broker to give me a chance and I am forever grateful for that opportunity.
I battled a developed chemical imbalance that put me in a depression in 2013 which caused me to leave the business for about a year. After cleaning up my life and putting everything back into balance, I came back with a bigger fire than ever and I believe that helped propel me to where I am today.
We’ve been impressed with Texas Office & Industrial Investments, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We specialize in selling investment office towers and industrial buildings across DFW and Texas. We sell to investors from the private sector all the way up to the institutional level who are investing in income-producing assets. This is a very big sector that investment firms look to.
My team and I are known in the industry as disrupters, innovators in the office and industrial sector as we are changing the way these buildings are presented and sold. Especially with the economy and the office sector being in a bad position, it’s more important than ever to figure out how to buy, sell and operate these office buildings we have across DFW.
I am proud that are brand is known for the team you call when you need the job done; we can bring in investors from across the globe to purchase as compared to most agents and firms who aren’t as specialized. We bring a different vision to each office building that creates it unique to itself and the market.
Readers need to know what we do for a living is a process and takes many years and hard work but has a lot of upside and benefits. They need to know that when you see these office buildings in Downtown or near the freeway that there is a lot of inner workings, and they can be huge investments for smaller investors up to publicly traded companies who do tremendously well from these assets.
What do you think about happiness?
Interacting with my team and my girlfriend obviously make me very happy. I enjoy talking with new people, anywhere we go, I try to talk with a random person just to get their story and make them feel good.
I collect classic muscle cars and love fixing them up and driving them to car shows around DFW.
Our team is a very fascinating team that is together 24/7. Although we work together, we are essentially a family, we make low-budget car/action films for fun and go out on our team boat on the lake.
