Today we’d like to introduce you to Abundio Munoz.
Hi Abundio, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I started my journey in martial arts at the young age of 10 when my father enrolled me in a karate program in Bryan College Station. As I dedicated myself to the sport, I found it to be a source of focus and concentration that I became passionate about. In the sixth grade, I received my first-degree black belt on March 28, 1982, and began competing and traveling throughout Texas, quickly realizing my desire to become an instructor and open my own sports/martial arts business.
In pursuit of this dream, I moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and opened my own martial arts studio in 1991. This venture eventually led to my involvement in personal training, children and adult self-defense, fitness kickboxing, weightlifting, and transforming people’s lives. My move to Fort Worth also marked the beginning of my pursuit of bodybuilding, during which I competed in 18 shows and achieved high ratings in my class.
Recently, in the past year and a half, I purchased my own commercial property in Fort Worth, where I run a high-end boutique fitness studio. I am fully committed to both my business and family, keeping myself busy 24/7, training clients and spending quality time with my wife and children.
As my business evolves, I hope to continue serving my clients the best I can and have always been particularly interested in starting and directing a local non-profit benefiting underprivileged children to build their confidence and set and achieve goals by combining subjects including self-defense, fitness, and motivational topics.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is full of challenges and obstacles, and my journey has been no exception. While I have faced my fair share of bumps in the road, I believe that these experiences are what make life exciting and adventurous. I have encountered numerous struggles throughout my career, such as figuring out how to increase clientele and grow my business without taking on all the work myself. Despite these challenges, I have continually strived to improve and push myself to reach new heights. Over the years, I have moved to various locations in Fort Worth, each time growing my business and reputation and attracting a loyal clientele. However, I have always known that there is room for improvement and have continuously sought ways to expand my business and challenge myself to think creatively. Even today, I still face obstacles that require hard work and creative problem-solving to overcome. Nonetheless, I remain determined to grow myself and my business and to reach ever-higher goals. I believe that there is always another level to achieve in both my personal and professional life, and I am committed to working hard to get there.
As you know, we’re big fans of Abundio’s Fit Society. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I have been in business since 1991, now known as Abundio’s Fit Society, a boutique fitness studio where I specialize in personal training. We are known for our incomparable one-to-one atmosphere, meaning it’s not an open-concept facility, and you’ll never have to worry about waiting on a machine or feeling uncomfortable in your surroundings. We are also highly regarded for the close and long-standing personal relationships we build with our clientele.
I myself arrive at the studio at 3:30 AM, Monday through Friday, to provide 30-minute sessions to my clients, many of whom are business owners themselves, looking to stay in top physical shape. I am proud to say that I am known for being exceptionally good at what I do, particularly when it comes to keeping my clients motivated and helping them reach their fitness goals. Not only are my relationships surrounding physical health, but mental health as well; my clients joke that I am similar to a therapist in that they feel they have a friend to lean on and comfortable sharing their daily stresses for advice and accomplishments to celebrate, always feel heard and cared for, and leave with a positive mindset after our sessions.
What sets me apart from other trainers is my unwavering dedication and commitment to achieving my own goals, as well as those of my clients. I believe in making no excuses for what I want and working tirelessly to achieve them.
Over the years, I have built a loyal clientele, some of whom have been with me for 25 to 30 years. This level of loyalty and dedication is a testament to the high-quality service that I provide and my ability to keep clients happy and healthy.
I am most proud of what I have built – my family, myself, and my business. I believe that this constant drive for improvement is what sets me apart from others in the industry. I want readers to know that when they come to my studio, they can expect personalized attention and a commitment to helping them achieve their fitness goals.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
My work as a personal trainer is not just a job for me but a way of life. I believe that fitness is not just about physical health but mental and emotional health as well.
I also believe in the power of community and creating a supportive environment for my clients. At my studio, we are more than just a gym – we are a family. We celebrate each other’s successes, support each other through challenges, and motivate each other to be our best selves.
Lastly, I want to emphasize that fitness is for everyone. No matter your age, background, or current fitness level, it is never too late to start on the path to a healthier, happier life. I would be honored to support and guide you on that journey.
I am always happy and open to any networking opportunities, collaborative partnerships, and efforts that better the Fort Worth community. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to hopefully connecting with you soon!
