Today we’d like to introduce you to TYC Veronica.
Hi TYC, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a Dallas Poet. My career started at the end of 2021 when I won a spot on the Dallas Poetry Slam team. (By the skin of my teeth if I can add!) I have always enjoyed writing since I was a kid, more specifically poetry. This opportunity gave me direction in my career as an artist because it opened up so many doors in a short amount of time. I have been able to perform in different cities, host different events & be involved with teaching creative arts.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
By God’s Grace, it has been a fairly smooth road. Though a struggle I face as a creative is not being taken serious for my craft. Many organizations do not see poets as a “bill,” meaning they want our time but do not incorporate pay with it. They want entertainment not understanding that if you are willing to pay a singer an x amount, the same should go for a poet. Art is Art.

Poetry is not my hobby; this is what I do full-time and what I am known for. At this time, I identify most as an Artist. I am very proud of the impact I am making in the creative world because being a host allows me to be an outlet for others to show case their talent. These nights were created for the Asian Community & supporters because we do not have a lot of locations we can come together. My open mics allow a space for multiethnic creators to come together to experience culture. This is what makes me different than others because I am an Asian American in the creative world who is creating space for others to flourish. Giving them a platform and being a connection for others in the community.
What does success mean to you?
Success is defined by the smiles of those around you. You may not have all that you want, but your surroundings reveal all that you need. People would question how can someone be happy if they are not where they want to be in life. That is why success is measured by smiles because it will show that you are providing enough to take care of those around you.
