Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonia Scott.
Hi Antonia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, my name is Antonia Scott affectionately known as Toni and I’m a proud native of Marrero, Louisiana which is located on the West Bank of New Orleans, Louisiana. Reign Check Boutique was established in the year of 2020. My love for rain boots, umbrellas, and protective wear is what motivated me to start my online boutique. I thought, “How cool would it be to have store that sold fashionable protective wear.” So, I researched surrounding areas to find such a store, and there weren’t any. I pitched my ideas to some close friends, and they absolutely loved the idea. I wrote out my business plan, including my mission statement, target population, etc. After I wrote my business plan, I prayed on it and wrote one of my favorite bible scriptures, Jeremiah 29:11, on my business plan. I decided to do a soft launch in April of 2021 on Good Friday. I was nervous and had so many mixed feelings, but I stayed positive and remained optimistic. Once my website became live, I received an overwhelming amount of support. I was brought to tears. These were tears of joy. Today, I’m still going strong and growing more each day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a business owner definitely has its challenges. Currently, I’m a “one woman shows,” so everything is on me. I choose the products, appropriate vendors, manage all social media accounts, marketing, advertising, create content, etc. You name it! I think the biggest struggle I dealt with was low sales period. I remember I went from selling out and having to restock several times to not selling at all. But I wasn’t too hard on myself. During slow periods I’d think of creative products to introduce and how I’d promote it. I’m always thinking of creative ways to continue keeping Reign Check alive.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I received my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2015. I’ve had years of experience working as a mental health counselor in mental health hospitals as well as community-based care. Currently, I work in Hospital Utilization Management. Utilization Management is a process that evaluates the efficiency, appropriateness, and medical necessity of the treatments, services, procedures, and facilities provided to patients on a case-by-case basis.
I’m most proud of being able to advocate for the most vulnerable patients and making sure all are receiving appropriate care.
What sets me apart from others is that I’m resilient, honest, assertive, and fear no man but God.
I’m confident and comfortable with who I am.
Besides being a fairly new business owner, I still work a 9-5.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always smiling. I loved being around my family, especially my mother. I loved to laugh, ride bikes, play with the family German shepherd, watch movies, and listen to music.
