Meet Brianne Katz of Uprise Chiropractic in East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Katz.

Brianne, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I always knew I wanted to be part of a profession that helped people feel better. Doing something where people left happy. I still didn’t know by college so I got my bachelors of Science degree in Psychology. After college, I worked at a bank in sales and liked my job…but I didn’t love my job. I decided that I had to make a change. I got into a car accident in the process and was told I needed surgery on my low back to ever be out of pain and to regain proper function of my legs. I wanted to exhaust all conservative measures before taking that leap. I went to a chiropractor who was able to get me walking, working out, and living my life with no pain and back to normal function. It was a miracle to me and I decided at that moment…I was going to be a chiropractor. I didn’t realize how much went into the educational requirements for being a chiropractor, so two years later and what felt like a million prerequisites, I enrolled in chiropractic school at Parker University in Dallas, TX. Throughout my time there, I fell in love with the idea of complementary medicine. I wanted to be part of a team of professionals that worked together to help patients and in particular, pregnant women and children. To do this effectively, I needed more specific training that had to be completed on top of chiropractic school. After completing my education, I came out exhausted yet determined. I knew that I wanted to practice differently than most chiropractors and I needed to start my own practice to do that. I started to network with local OB’s, midwives, doulas, lactation consultants, pediatricians etc. to let them know I was out there and I wanted to with them to give the patient the best care possible. I opened up my doors and the rest is history.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
HA! Funny! No, it has been quite difficult at different times. With being different comes criticism. I struggled building a patient base because of the reputation and preconceived ideas that people have of chiropractors (some of that is justifiable). I struggled with being true to how I wanted to practice and trusting the growing process.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Uprise Chiropractic is a Family based practice. I have additional training and education in pregnant women and children as well as valuable relationships with many different providers in Dallas (OB’s, midwives, Doulas, lactation consultants, pediatric dentists, and pediatricians). My associate, Dr. Jacob Maurer is an incredibly talented sports chiropractor who works with many local crossfits and he also has training in acupuncture and cupping.

Together, we treat entire families and kinds of people and problems. We pride ourselves on these basic principles:
-Spending time with people (30 minute time slots)
-Soft tissue on every single patient
-Empowering people to take charge of their health by allowing them to dictate how frequently they come to our office. No gimmicks. No sales.
-Being Affordable
-Treating every person we see as an individual with very different needs and therefore different treatments.

What were you like growing up?
Surprisingly, I was very shy and quiet! I have always enjoyed music. When I was a teen, I loved playing water polo and going to the beach. I will ALWAYS be a California girl at heart.
