Daily Inspiration: Meet Cameron Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Brown.

Hi Cameron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I could remember pictures have always been a big part of my household from after-games and competition photos to family and friends’ photos no matter where you went in my house there was always some type of photo hanged up for you to see. I remember being in my mom’s room as a kid looking through old photos of family members for hours with her. Each photo had its own memory, laughs, and story to be told behind it. She would always have a ball telling me what was going on in the pictures as well as who was who and how they were connected to us. Without those photos, I wouldn’t even know who half of my family was because there are so many of us that I still have not met till this day. I learned at a young age the value photos held to people and how they could uplift others while watching my mom back then. It wasn’t until later on in my life I decided I wanted to do something with photography. As I mentioned before photos were always taken after any type of event we had growing up. From the age of 7 when I first started playing sports all the way to high school. They would take photos no matter how bad of a loss or how great of a win we had they made sure to snap any and everything. At the time, it may have been a little annoying, but it was all worth wild looking back at those photos as we grew up cherishing all those moments, so after my sports career was done, I was stuck on what I wanted to do next with my life. I came across a camera one day and decided to take some photos at a football game. They weren’t the best photos to me but the reaction I got from the photos I took I realized that it was more than just the quality of the photo it was the memory that it held to people and it clicked to me. Thinking back on the moments me and my mom shared to the feedback I got to the photos I took, I decided to go deeper into photography.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wouldn’t even say that I have been walking on a road more like an unpaved field waiting to get paved. I didn’t start out with much experience or knowledge about photography, shooting-wise nor the business-wise. Each day I learned and grew more and more gaining skills and knowledge to be put on display. Me wanting to dip into different variations of for photography and videography at the start of my journey, it was very hard finding people that would be willing to help me paint the picture that I had in my head given the fact that I was new to the game, and nobody wanted to roll the dice on the new kid. I remember it would take me months to find a model just for them to cancel on me last minute. It was a struggle that I faced for a long time. Going through that made me only want to shoot individuals that I have already build relationships with and not just random people that I don’t know much about. That kept me from wasting time, but things became very repetitive and boring. It felt like everything I was doing was very bland and had no purpose to it, but I wouldn’t say that was a bad thing because it forced me to venture off into other aspects of photography and videography. I began to do sports highlights, shorts, motion photos, music videos, interviews/podcasts, real estate photography, and whatever else there was in the book. At the time I thought this was a good idea because it would expand the types of clients I would be able to work with, but I was only hurting myself because I would never fully stick to one of those concepts. I wanted to learn as many different things as possible to help as many people as possible like a Swiss Army knife. But in today’s era, you need to have a specific niche that identifies you, and that was the hardest part for me dialing down what exactly I wanted to do. This is something that I am still working on, but along the way, I have met some great people and made bonds and friendships that I wish to last forever. They have given me opportunities that I am very very grateful for and have not taken for granted.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
To keep the main thing the main thing, I want to become a creative director for any college sports team or a DOP or script writer on someone’s movie or tv set. How am I going to get there. Currently, I am working on shooting music videos and shorts, getting into the creative on-set role of a DOP (Director of Photography) this role will allow me to make certain changes and tweaks to a scene making it more visually pleasing to its viewers. I’ve always watched Tyler Perry’s movies and thought he was a genius on how he would put on displays all the fun characters in his work. I believe that I have the same creative mindset to make words on a paper come to life on screen. What’s setting me apart from anyone else is the bonds that t create with others and my energy. Once we are locked in mentally, I feel that we will feed off one another’s energy making whatever we decide to collab on a fun and hype environment.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
This is my version lol. Comparison is the killer of joy. Never compare yourself to others or their work, if everyone was the same, life would be boring. Another comment I would like to say is don’t change yourself for others; you may have to let a few things or people go, but that only allows another empty seat to be filled at your table

~Thank you!
