Hidden Gems: Meet Arlee Pryor of Balanced Life Psychotherapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlee Pryor.

Arlee Pryor

Hi Arlee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m Arlee Pryor. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate under the supervision of Brittany Whallen, LMFT-S, LPC-S. I am the owner of Balanced Life Psychotherapy, an online talk-therapy private practice serving individuals, couples, and families in Texas.

I have always desired to help others navigate their emotional struggles and listen to their stories. This passion for understanding and through experiencing the benefit of therapy in my own life, I began my educational career towards becoming a therapist. I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and built upon this knowledge in Austin, TX, where I earned a master’s degree in Couples and Family Therapy from Saint Edward’s University. Alongside my academic studies, I volunteered at Capital Area Counseling, a low-cost counseling center, where I was able to work with a range of clients facing a variety of relational issues. Life brought me to DFW after graduation, and I counseled at a group private practice, Rockwall Counseling & Wellness. Through these experiences, I was honored to witness clients’ resilience as they navigated their challenges and was inspired to begin Balanced Life Psychotherapy.

Today, I continue to feel lucky to walk alongside my clients, offering them a safe space to explore their most vulnerable emotions. Self-compassion is my mission- encouraging my clients to approach their healing work and inner parts with warm and acceptance.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Working in a healthcare system where mental health is often undervalued presents various difficulties. We exist under a societal tendency to prioritize physical health far beyond mental health, which has led to a lack of resources and conversation around emotional wellness. Another challenge lies in the lack of inclusive resources for LGBTQ+ clients. I am committed to advocating for the LGBTQ+ community in my work and creating an accepting space for the unique struggles and triumphs to be heard.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Balanced Life Psychotherapy is an online private practice serving accessible, virtual talk therapy to Texas residents. I enjoy working with both individuals, couples, and families, supporting them toward relational satisfaction and a more balanced approach in their lives. With individuals, I specialize in relational issues, family conflict, and LGBTQ+ issues, and with couples and families, I specialize in communication skills, conflict resolution, and issues related to betrayal and mistrust. My approach to therapy is collaborative and person-centered, also utilizing evidence-based techniques such as Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Gottman Method Therapy.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Carl Jung said. “The therapeutic relationship is a partnership of mutual discovery, a journey of exploration where therapist and client walk together towards healing and self-understanding.” I believe the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is crucially important to the outcome of therapy, being one of empathy, value, mutual respect. Throughout my sessions with my therapist of many fond years, I cannot recall specific words exchanged but I will always remember the acceptance, genuine regard, and care that I experienced, and that was truly transformative for me.
