Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Thompson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in the hometown of chopped and screwed,Houston, Tx. During my 8th grade year, my family and I felt it best to relocate to DFW where I completed my High School education. For a while I was unsure of my purpose or what I wanted to do next in life.
I knew I always had a passion for television, music and film. I knew I wanted to create and contribute to the stories that mattered to me most. Thus, media and entertainment had to be the path for me. It is a beautiful thing to think about something, write it out and execute it. That’s when I found my lane! Identifying my interests motivated me to become further knowledgeable about the entertainment industry and its laws and regulations. Oh yeah, and the basics on how to hold a camera properly! I attended Fisk University, where I earned cum laude in a bachelor’s of English. Thereafter, I earned my master’s in Television, Radio, and Film from Syracuse University, where I earned my AVID certification. Throughout my matriculation in college, I completed many internships in the entertainment industry, one of them being The CW Network. Fast forward to today, I am a Digital Marketer for The Oprah Winfrey Network by day and a photographer by night.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I consider life to be one of many mountains. Filled with ups and downs (sometimes you’re at the top and sometimes you’re in the valley). Starting a business definitely has had its share of mountains. I launched A JT Visual as an outlet for me to further share my gifts. Everything is visual for me. So why not turn your visions into reality, right? The biggest challenge I faced was simply getting started. Fear held me back until finally I realized that fear was holding me back. At that moment I knew I needed to shift my hobby into a business. While each day is different, I have not envisioned myself doing anything other than what I am doing right now!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Professionally, I have over 6 years of experience in Entertainment and Social Media Marketing. My new business, A JT Visual, is a by-product of my educational background, industry work experience and passion for media. I specialize in: digital marketing, photography and video editing. I find joy in capturing a person, creator, family or corporation’s most memorable moments. I feel most proud of having accomplished all that I have thus far! I can confidently say with every client or digital marketing campaign I have done, I receive a greater sense of self, joy, and gratitude for the NOW of it all!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I attribute all good that I have and shall ever obtain to my foundational relationship with God. No matter your belief system one can attest there is something that is constant in you. This indescribable love. A still voice that encourages you to do good. To dream. To love. In addition, without my family I would simply be a tree bearing no fruit or branches. It is the love I have toward my family and community that keeps me grounded and rooted in purpose!
