Today we’d like to introduce you to John Bowman.
Hi John, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is John Bowman, aka Dj Dbl-J. I am the owner/operator of Rock The Planet Dj Services. We are a wedding dj service that provides 360 photobooth and “Day of” Coordinator services as well. We began our journey 13yrs ago, on accident! I started DJing by way of live vocal performing with tracks. Growing up, I was surrounded by vocally talented people, which naturally lead me in that direction. I started by hiring a dj to play instrumental tracks while I would perform. It would get harder and harder to nail down a dj each time, so I started learning how to dj myself. Once I started, people were mostly hiring me to dj parties. After attending a few weddings, I realized that being a wedding dj was exactly the direction I wanted to go. The last thirteen years have been spent DJing and learning the ins and outs of this ever-changing industry. As a wedding dj, I like to connect with all of our couples by getting to know them and how they met. What made them know that this was their person. Once I got established in the DFW wedding industry, we began to expand. We upgraded all of our equipment, added to our staff. We also ventured out into photography with our 360 photobooth and “Day of” Coordinator Services! Our business is family operated, meaning my wife and kids all contribute to our success. Weddings are always such a joyous occasion, and I always say, ” I love being able to take my wife to a wedding every weekend.” When covid hit, it really shook our industry, and a lot of us didn’t last. Since things have gotten back to normal, business is definitely booming again. I can honestly say that this has really been an exciting unplanned carreer for me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been an easy road. When I started, I dealt with electronic and equipment failures a lot! I didn’t have the best equipment when I started, so electronic issues were definitely a headache.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in weddings! As a dj, many people think that you show up and party. Not with weddings. There’s a lot of preparation that goes into someone’s big day, and I take that seriously. So, I feel that my dedication and genuine care for each couple I meet sets me apart from the rest.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
A CROWDED DANCE FLOOR!!! That would make any dj happy, but mostly I love making people happy. I’m literally the party starter, so Let’s gooo!
