Hi Rodrick, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started as a thought from my late uncle Mr. Cedric Reason. Heavenly shout out to him, but if it wasn’t for him, I would have never fell in love with it let alone never even thought about being a barber. But how I made it to where I am today is by the support team I have (mom, dad, fiancé, daughter, sister, grandmother, Pawpaw, godfather, late auntie, homie/brother and etc.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, nothing is never smooth. From where I’m from, we have a thing called getting it out the mud, and that’s how I had to get it when I was get my feet wet in the barber game. But other than that Losing family members, letting go to old friendships that wasn’t good for me, money when times was hard, losing personal items. That was just the top of the iceberg.
As you know, we’re big fans of I work at Jer-Z-Jays upscale Barbershop. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
I’m a barber who been licensed since 2020. What I’m known for is being too hard on myself, and that’s because I chase perfection, so being great is the only way of gaining respect. I’m known for soft blends and beard work. The brand that I stand 10 toes on is Rodrickjrgrooming because I’m more than a barber, but I go by Zeus. I do make my own beard oils and butters but I’m working on some more products that will come in the near future. I offer grooming services to adults, teen, and kids. The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Yea staying safe and clean. Because if you don’t, you put you and the people around you in harm’s way.
