Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassie Moore.
Hi Kassie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I have always LOVED and been drawn to emotions- not all emotions, mind you, only the CRAZY, EXUBERANT, and OVER THE TOP EMOTIONS. I mean throw-your-head-back laugher, cries of happiness, and generally every emotion that attends a wedding celebration!
I had the honor of graduating from Baylor University with a degree in Fine Arts. One of the skills required of me was photography. I had no clue how this art form would capture my heart. Don’t get me wrong, loom weaving and pottery were pretty great, but it is the camera that stuck with me as I graduated and moved back to the DFW area. My first wedding was shot in all film, and I charged 100 bucks. I remember vividly sitting in the chapel frantically trying to change out my film roll just as they were about to kiss! So now I only shoot digital. Stress is not one of my favorite emotions (kudos to all film photographers- you guys are amazing!)
It will be 20 years of capturing weddings this upcoming May. Strangely enough, after shooting weddings from Hawaii to San Miguel, Parker County to Deep Ellum in Dallas, I still love it just as much as when I first started out.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Wow, what a cool question. I don’t think many people who work artistically for a living can claim it’s been all roses. I have made mistakes, yet experienced grace to keep me humble and hard-working. I have questioned my abilities enough to make me want to quit yet learned that imperfections can be beautiful.
Maybe the hardest struggle is trying to stay relevant while watching incredible talent whirling all around you (gee thanks, social media). That being said, all of these struggles are natural for anyone in a vocation they love – just trust God and keep going.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
These questions are so fun! OK… I specialize mainly in wedding photography and lifestyle photography. I might be known as the photographer who dances while taking pics during the reception and also the lady who makes “Tootie noises” to keep kids smiling for family portraits. (I mean c’mon- I still laugh at toots, so why wouldn’t kids)?
I am the most proud of a recent wedding shoot in San Miguel, Mexico. This was something I could only dream about getting to be a part of- three full days of capturing content that told a truly incredible love story. It was a ton of work, and yet I would go back tomorrow!
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
A lot of the traditional elements to weddings are being replaced or added upon. There is a new trend that the bride has a “First Look” with her father before she sees the groom. It’s really memorable and a blast to shoot! Bridesmaid dresses are shifting into a myriad of colors instead of one monochromatic look. I have seen stunning pink wedding gowns and parasols making an appearance too!
