Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddie and Courtney Garrigan.
Teddie and Courtney, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We opened Coco & Dash to fill a void in home decor shopping in Dallas. There were “Big Box” stores and design studios and antique shops and malls. But, there were no shops that brought to the city the design vision we were looking for. And if we were sensing a void others must be as well. We knew Dallas was ready for a more sophisticated retail experience.
Coco & Dash was born of a love of classic design enhanced by a bit of theater. It is light and airy with a sense of drama via exotic touches.
We began traveling to find the things we longed to see in one place. We worked long and hard and made mistakes along the way. But, finally, it all came together and we opened our doors in a funky little building on N. Henderson Avenue in 2014. We are now sought after from across the country for a certain look and designers and consumers alike know they can count on us to bring it home in the form of art, furniture, lighting and accessories.
In 2016, we expanded and built out the space next door to our original location. It feels like the perfect home for our unique aesthetic and we have just launched a second concept, Ciao, Coco! in an adjoining space.
The two concepts play very well together–Ciao, Coco! is the vacation lifestyle to Coco & Dash’s primary residence status. It’s fun and affordable but equally chic.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Of course we made mistakes! We over-bought, bought the wrong things, and had growing pains just like any healthy business. There were things we didn’t like doing that we had to figure out anyway. And being a mother-daughter team made it very interesting. Luckily, we have pretty good communication skills and a close relationship so that makes it easier to work through the rough patches. We generally end the day laughing.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Coco & Dash and Ciao, Coco! story. Tell us more about the business.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
There are certainly times when one can find it hard to quantify success in traditional terms but, generally, we can identify the action that resulted in a particular outcome. Where we might be more likely to attribute luck or what we call “a God deal” are times when a certain person was put in our lives at a particular time without a notion of what was to come. Whatever you believe, life is fascinating!
