Today we’d like to introduce you to Austin Prator.
Hi Austin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve had a camera in my hand since I was about 8 years old. I would document family trips and make photo albums to remember the fun. However, it wasn’t until the end of my college career in 2009 that I realized I could do photography for a living.
While I was tending bar, a photographer stopped in to have a drink after a photo shoot. We began chatting, and at the end of that conversation he wrote down a name and number of the company that would hire me as a wedding photographer in training.
I worked for that company located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for 5 years.
I was mentored by a man who was in the photography industry for 30 years before I met him. He and his team took me under their wing and through passionate studying and a tireless work ethic I quickly became a lead shooter and ran an entire section of his business within 1.5 yrs.
In 2014 I moved to Dallas, TX, and was faced with a unique opportunity to start a new life with my soon-to-be wife. I had to start my photography business over from scratch, so I emailed the first 50 Dallas photographers on Google…lol.
The results of that search eventually lead to the opportunity to work for 3 of the most successful wedding photographers in DFW at the time. I am forever grateful for everything I learned from those companies. Through those experiences, I earned the knowledge, confidence, and capital to start my own company.
Today Austin Scott Photography is a thriving business that brings me immense joy and fulfillment. My business is focused on capturing the lifestyle and personality of each of my clients and their staff or families. One side of my business focuses on Lifestyle Newborns, families, and portraits, while the other side covers marketing & branding photography for small business owners.
The most enjoyable aspect of what I do is getting to interact with my clients and their families. Developing relationships is very important to me, and I work hard to offer my clients a first-class experience while also fulfilling their photography needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to success in any business is littered with obstacles big and small. I am very grateful that the majority of my obstacles have been small, and I am thankful for the lessons I learned through every challenge I overcame.
The biggest obstacles were financial. Finding the right clients, earning consistent income & deciding on my niche were battles I fought for many years.
While I still face obstacles to this day, they are much easier to manage, thanks to my friends and family and my relationships with my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. I would not have the amazing life, business, and marriage I have today without those relationships.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a lifestyle newborn & family photographer. I also have branding side of my business working with local business owner. I specialize in providing my clients with portraits they love and can use to decorate their walls for generations. I want my clients to remember their family at every stage with artwork that never goes out of style. I love capturing the little moments because if you blink, it’s as if they didn’t happen. Like your babies’ chubby cheeks, or the funny face they make when they laugh, or the sweet way new siblings act before the rivalries start, lol!
The thing I am most proud of is the memorable experiences and long-lasting relationships I have with my clients.
That starts with a first-class boutique experience, which is what sets me apart from other photographers. This means that I serve my clients to the highest level by walking them through each step of the photography process and taking as much off their plates as possible. Including help with choosing outfits & locations as well as assistance in choosing final images.
When you hire a professional, you get what you pay for. And I’m worth every penny!
