Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Reddell.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After selling my part of a software company in 2000, I moved to Dallas and got married. As I settled into this new city, I also considered what new business I wanted to start. I always had an appreciation for architecture and decided to get a real estate license to see if I could combine my love of architecture with my business background to make a living. Shortly after starting in real estate, I discovered an enormous opportunity to work with new construing builders and developers helping them to create market and sell I’ve the last twenty years I have worked in all the major Texas markets and have been responsible for almost $2B in sales.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My experience growing my skill set and my business has been a series of challenges that were only overcome with hard work creativity, and a “failure is. or an option” attitude. I’ve been through the financial meltdown in 2007, oil market disaster in 2015, and Covid. I remember being in Houston when the price of oil fell to $27 per barrel, and our investors on the East Coast thought they would lose all their money on a project. We just buckled down and focused on every facet of our sales process to make certain we did everything we could possibly do to find buyers and make the project a success. It turned out to be the most successful project in the developer’s 50-year career. I think the stress we felt was greatly responsible for our hard work and ingenuity. Which led to that success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I mainly focus on helping builders and developers. I usually act as a consultant helping them decide which parcel of land to buy and then research what to build, help with the design, and am usually in charge of marketing and selling their creation. I am most proud of helping my clients become successful and helping my agents to become experts. Over the years, I’ve had many developments set records for sales price and time to sell out. I also love to train agents and share with them the things ai have learned over my career. One of my agents who started with me his first year went on to become the Rookie of the Year from the National Home Builders Association. That might be the only Texan to have ever worn the award. He sold $100 million his first year and set all kinds of records. I am also known for my ability to solve problems and find solutions to difficult situations.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I have always found mentors by working hard and demonstrating initiative. When I have found someone I want to learn from, I reach out to them and let the know how much I admire them and why. And then, I propose a way that AI can help them in return for them helping me. It generally works better for me when I propose to help someone before asking for help.
