Today we’d like to introduce you to Ally Joven.
Hi Ally, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Honestly, when I started Alexandria & Co., I didn’t realize how big of a part it would eventually play in my life. It started as a hobby to do in my free time and practically was a way for me to make an income as a senior in high school, but then I started gaining more customers, and the word about my small business spread. When Covid happened, my business actually skyrocketed in success since I sold my products online, and Alexandria & Co. became popular mostly in the Flower Mound and Denton areas. Since I started in 2019, Alexandria & Co. now has 5,000+ followers across all social media, made 2,000+ sales, shipped orders to 45 U.S. states and 4 foreign countries, and done 35+ pop-up shop events across North Texas!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have definitely had my challenges along the way. After brick-and-mortar stores started opening up after Covid, our online sales went down. I have also been a full-time student and had several other jobs since starting Alexandria & Co., which makes it sometimes challenging to manage my time and prioritize my business.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Alexandria & Co. specializes in jewelry, accessories, and gifts meant to serve as declarations of how beautifully each of us are made in the image of God. Each Alexandria & Co. product is created and/or hand-selected and branded with love, intentionality, and purpose. The earring and necklace cards and tags on our jewelry each have “Alexandria & Co. – Psalm 139:14” on them, and each one is individually hand-written by me. Psalm 139:14 is the bible verse that serves as the heart behind Alexandria & Co. because it talks about how we are each fearfully and wonderfully made. I believe the faith-based foundation and heart behind our business and the intentionality behind each product is what sets us apart.
What are your plans for the future?
Now, most of our sales are made through pop-up shops, where I sell my products in person at vendor events or brick-and-mortar small businesses that invite me to set up a table. My hope for the future is to continue to do pop-up shops and find even more small businesses in the North Texas area that are willing to host my pop-up table! I hope that my online sales will continue to grow as well as we post on social media and spread the word about who we are.
