Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Brooks.
After graduating from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Architecture, Allison worked at: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago, IL; A. Epstein & Sons in Chicago, IL; and Good Fulton & Farrell Architects in Dallas, TX.
In 2007, Allison began working with Crow Holdings on the development of the Old Parkland campus. After several years assisting on interior projects on campus with private office space, Allison began assisting Trammel Crow Residential with Multifamily Amenities centers and unit designs. Once she had several projects under her belt, she starting getting requests from other Multifamily developers such as Wood Partners, Argyle Residential, Encore Residential, CWS and others.
Chloe Guernsey joined B2 Architecture + Design in 2012 and has helped grow the company to 8 professionals with projects in Dallas, Austin, Fort Worth, Houston, Denver, Phoenix and Seattle.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In 2007, I left the field of architecture to be a developer. Along with the dentists and other non-real estate professionals, I thought I could make it big by developing condos in East Dallas. I found 2 great lots that were zoned for multifamily and thought I hit a home run…until the crash happened in 2008. I had 2 empty lots, no buyers, no lenders and was out of money. I quickly realized that I wanted to be an entrepreneur but it was safer sticking with services that I was more familiar with like Architecture and Design.
B2 Architecture + Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
First, we are as committed to great services as we are to great design. We really like our clients and 80% of our clients are repeat business. We know them on a personal level as well as a professional level, which allows us to be a strategic partner to them as individuals, as well as company-wide.
Second, we are committed to telling your story through architecture and design, not ours. Every project is in a unique location with a specific demographic and brand identity. We establish an Essence Guide for every project that identifies the individual brand DNA for that particular project. This assists in the curation of exact look and feel for each project as it develops through the phases of design with our clients and consultants.
Third, we are architect-trained interior designers. Our first-hand understanding of what works inside and out makes us true partners to other creative consultants on projects. This multi-disciplinary team allows us to see opportunities beyond inherent limitations given spaces may have.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Happy employees make happy clients. We try to give our designers the creative freedom to wow our clients while supporting them with the knowledge of experience we have learned on past challenges. I want my designers and installation specialists to feel like they have real control on the outcome of their projects, as well as relationships with our clients, which empowers them to grow in their professional knowledge and personal goals.
