Rising Stars: Meet Melissa Langley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Langley.

Melissa Langley

Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m Melissa Langley, a seasoned beauty industry professional with over two decades of experience. My journey began in 2001 at the age of 16 when I started as a front desk receptionist and assistant. I officially graduated from Beauty College in 2005. Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of receiving top-notch training, earning recognition as one of Sacramento’s top hair colorists for consecutive years, and being featured in bridal and color magazines, local television, and social media across nine countries.

In addition to my accolades, I’ve actively participated in hair contests, securing first place on several occasions, and even shared the stage with Manic Panic at the prestigious ISSE hair show in Long Beach. Education is my passion, and I have years of experience as an educator and instructor in the field.

Beyond my professional achievements, I’m deeply committed to serving the special needs community in the Fort Worth area. As a certified TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) practitioner and a special needs parent myself, I bring a unique perspective to my work. My family and I relocated to Fort Worth a year ago, where I am currently establishing my clientele in two locations. While I travel to Sacramento every two months to continue caring for my loyal clients of 20 years, I’m excited about putting down roots in Texas.

Hair is my canvas, and I derive immense joy from not only enhancing people’s outward appearance but also boosting their inner confidence. The highlight of my appointments is witnessing my clients leave with beaming smiles, knowing I’ve contributed to their happiness.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, in the hair industry, navigating its unique challenges, such as finding suitable workspace, mastering ever-changing techniques, maintaining discipline, pursuing improvement, confronting criticism, and enduring frequent fresh starts throughout the years, demands resilience and grit. This industry is filled with ups and downs, and resilience is key to maintaining balance amidst them.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in various hair coloring techniques, with a notable reputation for creating vibrant and artistic color work. One of my proudest achievements was receiving an invitation to showcase my skills on stage alongside industry leaders at the renowned ISSE Long Beach, the biggest beauty event of the year. Additionally, providing a typical experience for special needs children and their parents has been a deeply fulfilling and heartwarming accomplishment in my career.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
Throughout my career, I’ve consistently confronted significant risks and the possibility of failure as fundamental components of the journey. While setbacks have occurred along the way, I remain steadfast in my commitment to persevere, extract valuable lessons from failures, and continue progressing. My entire career has been marked by risk and failure, yet I stand stronger than ever.
