Today we’d like to introduce you to Rana Rose.
Hi Rana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As someone who worked as an Accountant in corporate for the past 30 years, I took the long road through my career journey. Before I ever got my college degrees, I relied solely on my years of work experience in Accounting. Once I relocated to MD from LA after surviving Hurricane Katrina in 2005, I began to rethink my career goals. Because the accounting field was so competitive in MD, I knew I wouldn’t be able to excel in my career without the proper education. For this reason, I made the decision in 2007 to finish my education to obtain my Bachelor’s in Accounting then continued on with my educational pursuit by obtaining my MBA.
After obtaining my degrees, I was able to excel in my career to the levels I had always hoped for. However, God decided to take me off the path I wanted and placed me on the path He had for me. Unbeknownst to me, God had plans for me to pivot from corporate to become an entrepreneur.
In a vision in April 2022, God gave me the name of my company Accounting with a Purpose, LLC, and I decided to move forward with forming my LLC. Once the LLC was formed, I was excited I took the first step into entrepreneurship but had no clue what I would do next.
By the fall of 2022, God told me it was time to step out on faith to start my entrepreneurial journey. Did I listen immediately? NO. I procrastinated because I was afraid and fearful of the unknown. Even though I was very unhappy with my corporate job, I didn’t want to give up the safety net of guaranteed income. On the other hand, I couldn’t disobey God’s order’s either, so I decided to obey, and my journey into entrepreneurship started in December.
Before I decided to take on clients, I turned to my family and friends to sit through a presentation in December to give me feedback on the services I planned to offer and how I planned to attract clients. The constructive criticism given by my loved ones got me ready to take on my first client in January as a new entrepreneur.
This was the beginning of my journey which has brought me to the present day and sharing my story with you and your readers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing worth having will be easy. From the start, I had no idea how I would be able to attract clients. My first idea was to post as much as I could on my Facebook business page to hopefully stir business. I quickly found out that FB would not be the medium for me to acquire clients.
Then I turned my attention to Instagram, which was the turning point in my journey. It wasn’t because IG was much better than FB, but this is when I realized my weakness. Coming to the realization that my weakness was in sales prompted me to hire a sales coach on IG. During the first sales session, I was given the best information I needed to start acquiring clients, which was to network, build relationships, and ask the right questions.
Once I realized that meeting with others should just be a normal conversation to connect, I was on my way. I was able to land several clients in a short duration. However, that brought on its own set of challenges.
When you aren’t bringing on clients who are aligned with your values or mission, you start to encounter unexpected challenges and struggles on your journey. Don’t ever be in it for the money alone. For that reason, I have become very selective about who I bring on as a client to ensure we are on one accord and our visions are aligned.
We’ve been impressed with Accounting with a Purpose, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My company Accounting with a Purpose, LLC is located in the greater Dallas, TX area, but we serve clients across the US. We help small businesses financially invest in themselves by providing bookkeeping, income tax, and consulting services, resulting in revenue growth and tax savings. My company not only provides businesses with their financial information, but we serve as their financial partner to guide and educate them to ensure they are equipped with the proper information to make sound business decisions.
The competitive advantage for my company is our clients reap the benefits of having a financial partner that takes them through the full business lifecycle. Their journey will take them through infancy to adulthood with their finances. We are here to service our clients at the very beginning of their journey to form their LLC, once the formation of the LLC is complete we will ensure their finances are in order on a monthly basis with our bookkeeping services, and lastly meeting with them on a quarterly basis to ready and prepare them for tax season by paying their quarterly estimated taxes to the IRS and discussing ways to help reduce their taxes.
This entrepreneurial journey has been a labor of love. God has been leading the charge to ensure hope and faith will overrule my fear. The goal is to ensure our clients have sustained success by alleviating financial stressors to allow them to focus on growth opportunities. After all, Accounting with a Purpose, LLC is where small business is the “purpose” of our business. In other words, if our clients succeed we succeed.
