Today we’d like to introduce you to Saif Syed.
Hi Saif, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Since the age of nine, I believed that I had a creative spark in me, and I wanted to express it. I received my first point-and-shoot camera at the age of ten, and off I went. I dove into the world of photography, and I loved it. What started as a playful hobby quickly became an obsession. A few years later I got my first official DSLR at the age of fourteen, which was a major steppingstone for my creative passion. Up until now, I’ve always been on the move from state to state. This would seem like an inconvenience to many. However, to me, it built my strength as a creative and allowed me to view the country’s difference in societal terms. I got to where I am through the strength I gathered while in the constant state of travelling – giving me endless experiences.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As much as a blessing being on the move was, it did come with some obstacles. Moving meant I had to leave the comfort of the community I was brought into. Moving meant I needed to venture into the unknown, which can be frightening. Moving meant I had to give up what I knew to learn what I didn’t know. Although it created many many challenges, it also gave me experiences that many would miss out on in their lifetime; and for that, I’m ever so grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is my passion, and vice versa, my passion is my work. I’m a creative that is unlike most. I do many things, but I’m a veteran when it comes to being a Director of Photography. I have been in the photography business for about 10 years. Conducting client-based transactions at such a young age gave me a business-oriented mindset from the get-go. I do many different types of photography, almost all types, I must say. I’ve done events, weddings, influencer & artist photos, portraits, real estate, architecture, graduation – you name it, I’ve done it. Recently I’m specializing in automotive photography, and it’s safe to say I’m excelling in that area. However, I have been known for creating artistic portraits that indulge in the world of colors, providing vibrant and rich colors as a supplemental aspect to the portrait of the model. I’m most proud of my ability to pick up a niche in photography and do good at it. What would set me apart would be my background in the exploration of Psychology and Dentistry. I studied Psychology to understand how to industry as well as how the consumer base works on a deeper level – how their gears turn, you could say. I wanted to have this knowledge to set myself apart from others, and that it did.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I saw many cultures. It led me to pick up many interests and find my personality. I am a laid-back individual, with humor as a main aspect. I often like to find a comfortable, cozy spot in the house listen to music, and tune out of the world for a bit. It helps me think creatively. In fact, most of my photos and work is based off the emotions and thoughts I had while listening to music prior. Other interests of mine include sports (American football, basketball, and boxing), music, filmmaking, hiking/mountain biking, and of course psychology/the understanding of others.
