Today we’d like to introduce you to George Davis.
Hi George, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Tutus. Very few know this story. And this would actually be my villain origin story to business. Davis Global was started based on ideology. My personal ideology. Creating industry and recognizing demand. I was going through a tough breakup at the time when I decided I needed a positive distraction. This story will also be a lesson in “listen to your friends.” My ex at the time had a skill at making ballet tutus. I used to tell her that she should sell those since it was something she was good at doing and liked to do. She blew it off and never followed through. Now here’s the villain part. Probably me being petty as well. I thought, how can I show a person missed an opportunity. Not so much as a relationship. But personal growth in yourself when someone gives advice on how you can grow using your own gifts. I went through the internet and found out something interesting. It was a huge untapped distribution of ballet tutus. Mainly overseas. A huge opportunity for supply and demand. I contacted over 100 ballet companies and asked them who was their distribution for their students’ tutus. Most didn’t have an answer. I let them know that I would be more than happy to accommodate them in this area. Some were reluctant since, obviously, this was new territory to me, but I assured them I had the resources to make this happen for them. I looked for tutu distributors in every major region, and needless to say, they were all VERY expensive. I couldn’t afford it. What I could afford, though is the manufacturers that sold to the distributors themselves. I was able to sell to the companies at a better rate while generating a profit for myself at the same time. Without ever having to touch a single piece of fabric. A box or anything. That petty moment in me changed my life. I knew I could bring peoples’ ideas into existence. From there in one year’s time, I gained over 100 clients and started my first business. Davis Global.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No. Time management and delegation is probably one of the biggest things. Meeting deadlines. Creating and managing a constructive action plan. In any industry, those are always factors.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear many hats. I’m a CEO, COO, Influencer, mentor, designer, creator, and more recently a published author. Yes, a lot of hats. Probably some I forgot to name. Known for a few things now. It’s an honor. I’m proud of inspiring my kids. They create lanes for themselves. Even when I’m not there presently as much as I’d like to be. They never hesitate to ask my input. As a father, I think that is what sets me apart from others. It’s my personal added focus. Provider. When you have others that rely on you. That gives you a center that others are counting on you. Minimal space for error.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Now? My kids. That’s probably the most consistent thing in my life. Watching them grow up. Seeing them develop interests in things. It’s amazing watching them do things independently. I love it.
