Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Starr.
Hi Kim, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My husband and I met at Team Texas in 2003. His uncle owned Team Texas at the time. My husband, David Starr, is a NASCAR 25-year veteran driver and he had raced the night before. A family member of mine wanted to drive the racecars at Team Texas so we all went out to the racetrack at Texas Motor Speedway on a Saturday. My husband was helping his uncle give racecar drives and rides, and that is how we met! Fast forward 20 years, two kids later, and now we own Team Texas! We are in the business of making people happy and creating very memorable and unique memories all at affordable costs! At Team Texas, you can drive our authentic competition NASCAR racecars up to 150mph and/or ride with our instructors 160mph with ten other cars on the track for that authentic racing feel! At Team Texas, we are very family-oriented and have a custom NASCAR racecar that we converted into an open-air racecar limousine for any age to ride around Texas Motor Speedway in! We have at least five open-to-the-public dates every year! In addition to that, we customize corporate events to include employee retention incentives, customer appreciation, and friends and family events! We coordinate all moving parts of the event, including food and drink catering, bands, etc. We also offer team-building activities such as Pit Stop Challenges! We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a business is never a smooth road! There are always battles along the way—Covid, for example! We have had to revamp Team Texas after almost two years of not having business due to Covid regulations. We stepped up and have hired an amazing Marketing Director who has helped us get back on track! We have amazing employees who we consider family who we surround ourselves with to make great things happen! We are very optimistic people and are not giving up on our dream! Team Texas has been in the family for 30 years, and we are determined to make it even more successful than pre-Covid! We treat our customers like we want to be treated, and they always come back for more! We did have to move our race shop recently, which was a huge undertaking, but my husband and our team stepped up and got the job done! David is a huge perfectionist, and he keeps our cars and raceshop, tools, etc. in pristine condition. So, moving has been a challenge for us and our family, but we know what it takes to bounce back. As my husband always says, “Keep on Keepin’ on!”
We’ve been impressed with TEAM TEXAS, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Team Texas is a high-performance racing school located near Texas Motor Speedway in between Denton and Fort Worth! We are essentially an entertainment company providing NASCAR racecar drive-and-ride packages! Our customers get to drive our competition NASCAR racecars up to 150mph around Texas Motor Speedway and/or ride with an instructor going 160mph with ten other racecars on the track! Safety is first and foremost, so our customers are always in the racecar with one of our 20-year+ instructors! Team Texas does have one other competitor, and what sets us apart from them is that David, my husband and co-owner, is a 25-year NASCAR veteran racecar driver! He knows the intricacies of racing cars and most importantly, safety! Team Texas is a 30-year-old company—-very brand-strong! We are so proud of that and survived Covid! Our customers are always #1! If they are not happy with their experience for whatever reason, we want to know, and we will make it right! We are always evolving and know how critical it is for our customer to have the experience they envisioned before even getting into one of our cars! We customize corporate events and manage all of the details so our clients can go on about their workday without having to worry about anything!
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we have learned along our journey is that it is ok to make mistakes! We are human and are not perfect, but we will make it right, and you will have an amazing experience with us! We treat our customers like family, and we want them to come back again and again, so we ask our clients to be open and honest with us!
