Today we’d like to introduce you to Victor William Chen. They and their team shared their story with us below:
In the realm of entertainment, there are pioneers who strive to showcase authenticity and break barriers. Victor William Chen, a true martial artist, coach of coaches, action talent, and filmmaker, is one such individual. Through his remarkable journey, Victor has dedicated his life to promoting Chinese-American representation in various forms of entertainment. This article explores his path, from his early experiences as an English teacher in China to his recent endeavors in Hollywood and beyond.
The Beginnings:
Victor William Chen displayed an incredible passion for martial arts, starting with kicking and punching at the age of two. With a diverse background that includes law enforcement, a bachelor’s in criminal justice, and Masters in International Relations, and experience as a former White House intern, Victor is truly a force to be reckoned with.
Victor’s journey began with his early fascination with martial arts. As a child, he quickly discovered his natural talent for combat sports and dedicated himself to honing his skills. From Okinawa karate to the beginnings of mixed martial arts, Victor immersed himself in the discipline of being a true martial artist.
His determination and rapid progress along with commitment to physical fitness set him apart from his peers and laid the foundation for his future success as the head coach and owner of his new brand: VWC Muay Thai & Fitness.
The Power of Film:
It was during his time as an English teacher in China that Victor realized the power of film as an educational medium. Inspired by his students, he recognized that one could learn faster through movies than via traditional textbooks. This notion resonated deeply with Victor, echoing the sentiment famously shared by the legendary martial artist and actor Bruce Lee. This realization became a turning point in his life, igniting a passion for martial arts action and dramatic filmmaking.
The Hollywood Dream:
Motivated by his newfound drive, Victor embarked on a journey to break into the complex world of Hollywood. He understood that success was not an overnight occurrence but rather a marathon. In actuality, Victor was born with a love for being on camera. Over time, Victor honed his acting skill sets, learning from both successes and failures and appreciating the importance of quality over quantity. Through perseverance and unwavering determination, he sought to bring authentic Chinese-American representation to the forefront of the entertainment industry.
A Return to Roots:
In 2023, following the global impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, Victor made the decision to return to China. Drawn by an opportunity to train with the prestigious Jackie Chan Stunt Team, he saw this as a chance to deepen his knowledge, forge new connections, and reunite with old friends. Most importantly, it was an opportunity to reconnect with the students who had motivated and inspired his journey.
The Jackie Chan Stunt Team Training Center:
At the Jackie Chan Stunt Team Training Center, Victor embraced the rigorous training and challenges that awaited him. Victor had built connections over the years with many from the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. Most notably, his long-time friendships with veteran Diana Weng, Jackie Chan’s dialogue coach, and film producer Sabrina Chen-Louie lead him to attend Jackie Chan’s prestigious 60th birthday event in Beijing and the 2019 Action Film Festival in Datong, China.
This 2023 brand new opportunity now allowed Victor to be surrounded by fellow passionate action film creatives. He re-immersed himself in the art of Chinese style of action on camera, wire, and stunt work, further honing his skills as a stronger action talent. The center provided an environment conducive to growth, offering a unique blend of tradition and innovation. It was here that Victor found a community of like-minded individuals who shared his vision of authenticity in entertainment.
Continuing the Journey:
Victor’s journey is far from over. Armed with newfound knowledge and experiences, he plans to utilize his skills to create meaningful projects that showcase Chinese-American culture and talent. Through his work as a martial arts coach, he aims to empower and inspire future generations of artists and action directors. Victor understands the importance of representation and aims to contribute to a world where diversity and authenticity are celebrated.

Victor William Chen’s story exemplifies the power of perseverance, passion, and authenticity in the entertainment industry. From his early experiences as an English teacher in China to his current endeavors at the Jackie Chan Stunt Team Training Center, Victor has relentlessly pursued his goal of showcasing Chinese-American talent. I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The entertainment industry is indeed a unique entity where technological advancements have opened up new avenues for viral success, often through apps. However, it’s disheartening to see that exceptional performances on camera can sometimes go unnoticed.
In this fast-paced, technology-driven world, success in the film industry seems to depend on a combination of timing, luck, and networking. The absence of a set standard adds to the struggle, making it difficult for talents to truly thrive. However, I firmly believe that supporting and uplifting one another can make a significant difference.
Immediate gratification rarely leads to long-term success. It is a lifelong commitment to making our voices heard and helping others amplify theirs. Despite facing rejection, this drive to create change and be heard is deeply ingrained in me, much like the spirit of a martial artist striving for self-actualization.
The struggle faced by creatives worldwide remains largely unknown to many. It is a constant battle that requires resilience, dedication, and a relentless pursuit of our passions.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an avid fan of both entertainment and martial art, I have always been drawn to the world of action films and dramatic filmmaking. However, my passion doesn’t stop there. I am also the head coach and owner of VWC Muay Thai & Fitness, where I specialize in providing martial arts education for total beginners.
My focus on educating beginners stems from my desire to help individuals change their lifestyles through the essence of martial arts. I firmly believe that martial arts training requires true authenticity with realism of self-defense. This not only improves physical health but also provides mental and emotional benefits that can positively impact one’s overall well-being knowing their skills may save their life or someone else one day.
In addition to martial arts education, I also incorporate a sense of realism into action choreography for film. This skill has proven useful in my goal of building a gym facility where I can blend real martial arts and self-defense techniques into film.
What sets me apart from other martial arts coaches and filmmakers is my connection with the Jackie Chan Stunt Team. I am proud to have the opportunity to connect with the old and new generations, and Jackie Chan’s name highlights the power of Asian cinema.
Recently, I attended the first-ever unique stunt training at the new Jackie Chan Center, where I made new connections and saw old friends within the action industry. This experience only solidified my passion for martial arts and action filmmaking.
At VWC Muay Thai & Fitness, I offer a specialized education platform for total beginners to learn and grow in the world of martial arts. Whether you are looking to improve your physical health and mental well-being, or simply want to try something new, I am here to support and guide you every step of the way.
In conclusion, my passion for martial arts and action filmmaking has led me to create a unique platform for total beginners to learn and grow. With my connection to the Jackie Chan Stunt Team and my focus on realism in action choreography, I am confident that I can provide a one-of-a-kind experience for those looking to change their lifestyle through the essence of martial arts.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Stepping out of your comfort zone is never easy, especially when it involves leaving your home country and venturing into the unknown. This can be a daunting experience, particularly when you don’t have any friends or family to rely on for support. However, taking risks can lead to some of the most rewarding experiences of your life.
For me, the first major risk I took was leaving my potential career in law enforcement at a young age without knowing what my next move would be. It was a difficult decision, but it ultimately led me to discover my true passion in life – traveling and exploring new cultures.
In 2009, I took a huge leap of faith and traveled to China for the first time. I went alone and took on a job as a foreign English instructor. It was a scary decision, especially since I didn’t speak Mandarin at the time. However, I didn’t let fear hold me back. I had a game plan, and I was determined to make the most of my experience.
Looking back now, I realize that taking that risk was the best decision I ever made. It allowed me to break free from my comfort zone and experience the world in a way that I never thought possible.
If you’re considering taking a similar risk, my advice to you is to have a game plan. Do your research and figure out what you want to get out of the experience. Make sure you have a plan for things like housing, transportation, and finances. It’s also important to be open-minded and willing to embrace new experiences.
Remember that taking risks can be scary, but it can also be incredibly rewarding. Don’t let fear hold you back from living the life you want to live. Take that step into the unknown, even if it seems outlandish to others. You may be surprised at how much your life can change for the better.
