Today we’d like to introduce you to Susai Wise.
Hi Susai, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
To start, I was born and raised in New York; my parents gave me a good and loving home. I have a sister and a brother whom I love very much; I couldn’t be here today without all of their love and support.
I started getting involved in the pet service industry around the age of 14, I learned how to use hair clippers to do a simple grooming haircut for my two small dogs, man did they looked horrible at first. So, I kept trying, I wanted to get better and make money, I got maybe 1 client and it only made $40 dollars in the span of 3 hours. So, I lost my confidence and completely abandoned the grooming business completely. A good amount of time pasted and my love for animals grew exponentially, I was 19 when I brought home my own dog. I named him Stark, and he is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I didn’t know at that time, but he was going to be the inspiration for my business today. Stark loves all dogs of all sizes, he’s goofy, energetic, and overall, very loving. He wasn’t always like this, when he was a puppy, he gave me a run for my money. I was having a hard time finding a place for a doggie daycare. I tried Rover out and I loved the concept. I found amazing sitters for him, and I knew he was loved and cared for. I kept that idea in my head and started executing my plan once I moved to Dallas. I joined Rover, and within a few weeks, I got my first client! I started my prices off as very low to build clientele and gain more experience and it helped that I had an alternative job to supplement my income. About 2 months into Rover, I was receiving so many requests. I made sure I was punctual, friendly, and very responsive. I used my service industry skills and my love for animals to my advantage. In 2021, I started working a remote job that allowed me to optimize my spare time into my business. I created Susai’s Dog House LLC in August of 2023; it started off as just me. I was tired all the time, and I didn’t want to have all of the hard work I was doing be wasted, I knew I had to delegate. Currently, I have 3 employees and plan on hiring more local sitters! The mission of Susai’s Dog House is to have the most quality in home care, whether yours or our home we treat them like our own. We respect all rules and schedules provided and keep everyone’s best interest at heart. Creating Susai’s Dog House has been the most challenging and humbling experience I have ever had. I plan to keep chasing my dreams and make my family proud.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Creating a fulling functioning business with no prior knowledge or know-how would be difficult for anyone. However, using the internet and hiring outside help to guide me now seems like it was the easy part. We struggle to find the target audience needed to expand, we are trying to supplement this with new media marketing and informative social profiles. These things do take time, so it seems like a waiting game. Susai’s Dog House is a small women-run business, we all open our homes and it’s hard to find others that are willing to do the same. We will continue to expand, and we plan on having many locations in the near future!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We have 3 full-time employees to service your every need! If your pet only can be around small dogs, we have an in-home location that provides care for ONLY small dogs. We also have another in-home location that is primarily for Cats and a third location meant for Large or High-energy Dogs. Each location around the downtown area has its own amazing quirks with amazing sitters! We would love for your pet to become a part of the Susai’s Dog House Family! My employees have been trained for pet CPR and can provide oral medications. We practice love, patience, and kindness as we know it is a different environment than your fur baby is used to. We provide Daily updates, and any stay that is 3 days or more, you shall receive a customized goody bag from your pet’s stay!
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I learned the importance of cleanliness; we take pride in how clean our homes are. We want to make sure that it is the cleanest and safest environment for any of our furry friends!
