Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Hill.
Hi Roxanne, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Roach Noises is a female-fronted grunge/post-punk three-piece out of Dallas. What started as a solo project in a roach-infested college apartment in San Marcos blossomed into the band Roach Noises is today. Front-woman Roxanne Hill commands the stage with theatrical intensity, bone-chillingly deep vocals paired with hard-hitting riffs and lyrics.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Main obstacles have been being confined to one genre or another. There’s so much pressure to define the sound of each project you work on. I listen to so much music I don’t like the thought of being confined to one genre. I don’t write in a genre. I had someone recently tell me Sleepwalker doesn’t fit Roach Noises and should be in its own metal project. I’ve said Roach Noises is like if Elliot Smith and Bryan Wilson listened to Sonic Youth and Bolt Thrower. I love writing ballads. I’m from Texas, so I’ve obviously written some country songs. I’ve got pop punk roots from sitting down with my big sisters growing up and being forced to figure out the harmonies to Stay Together For the Kids at like five years old. Do you know how many different kinds of roaches there are? Bottom line, I love music…. maybe I just need to start another project on the side.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
