Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hey! My name is Courtney Cloud! I am a full-time mother of three HILARIOUS children and a full-time business owner! After spending 17 years in the sales industry combined with 11 years in the advertising industry, I decided to explore the world of freelancing!
Not going to lie; I have almost given up time after time again, but I kept reminding myself that Marketing and Advertising is not just my hobby (I know, I need to find a hobby outside of work LOL), but it is my PASSION!
With my experience in working for busy advertising agencies, I had seen that their clients are treated not as a business partner… but just another meal ticket in the eyes of these corporations.
My clients would get lost; they would not see any return on investment with their ad spend, not to mention their content would probably not even be posted! Not that it wasn’t created, because I promise you… I take pride in my content creation and creativity!
They just seemed to constantly get lost in the sea of hundreds upon hundred of other clients. I noticed coworkers were more worried about getting a weekly paycheck vs honoring the duties of what comes with marketing and advertising.
I had been noticing for a while that these business owners would give their hard-earned money that they budget every year for advertising to big advertising agencies like the ones I had worked for and do not get the one-on-one care that they deserve for their business as promised.
I had been debating for a good year or so to start my own, but I was scared of change until one day, as I was prospecting for new clients, I spoke with a very broken-hearted woman. She told me she and her husband started an HVAC company, and at first, they were VERY successful! Long story short, after an hour-and-a-half-long conversation with this woman, brought me to tears. She had told me she spent THOUSANDS with about 5 other advertising agencies that never produced. Which then caused their company just to fall apart, and now she is a waitress at Buffalo Wild Wings and her husband is back to working for another HVAC company.
I was disgusted with what I had heard, so I asked her if I could make her a sales funnel with some social media content and ad spend on the house. I then got her and her husband a few jobs to help them generate more money for their business that was stolen from them.
It made my day! I loved hearing what my work had done for their company I didn’t want to stop. I finally created me a website and started prospecting for ReignCloud Media. After a couple of months, I then put in my two weeks’ notice and walked away from the corporate world.
I now have more time to be a mother and more time to focus one-on-one with what I would like to call are my business partners. They’re more than just a ”client” because without them, ReignCloud Media would never exist, and without my services they would be lost in competition!
Digital Advertising is blowing up & after the pandemic people are now staring their own companies, and social media has come so far in the business world.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As for obstacles and challenges go, I can say at first, it was hard due to people being skeptical because of their past experiences with big-time corporations. Luckily, I can say I have built a lot of relationships with my clients over the last decade, so I was able to start up ReignCloud a lot sooner than expected. Also, people paying on time can tend to be a problem. I do a 3-month contract and I have had some months where multiple companies would be late on payments, which is never good when I am expecting an electricity bill due!
Then juggling mom life while working probably 40-plus hours a week! I would like to be able to find someone in the future to help me by 2024.
