Today we’d like to introduce you to Freddie D. Harris.
Freddie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
LineRcize began about four years ago in a small hair salon in Downtown Dallas. The instructors of the line dance class met over time through mutual friends at social events. Having dance in common, we decided to create a fun class that incorporated both dance and exercise for the entire family. One of the first line dances that we created, recorded, and shared was the “Fine China Line Dance.” From its popularity via social media, it helps ignite LineRcize to what it is today. From teaching one class a week with only a boom box to having four classes a week with music from a live DJ.
LineRcize has been invited to family gatherings, health fairs, school functions, and multiple charity events. The class now has consistent members and buzz within the community. We are gracious of our accomplishments thus far and driven to reach new heights as a business for our community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Operating a business can be like a roller coaster ride, filled with ups and downs. In the beginning, there four original members and creators of LineRcize. With the addition of Nekia Jones (DJSS), everything was flowing quite well. Not being affiliated with any other group fitness program nor wanting to be a duplicated class, we had to create nearly everything we did in class from scratch.
About two years in, obstacles began to arise such as; venues having electrical problems, buildings being shut down and causing us to find new locations, not being proactive with the finances of the company, and just life events amongst the team. Though many people have come and gone, there are a handful of loyal members who have been with us on this journey and we are truly grateful for them.
Since then, LineRcize has had to start over with a clean slate. We have added new partners, reliable locations, new class operations, and procedures to assure the best experience each session. Despite all the hurdles, by the grace of God, we’re still an effective company climbing the ladder of success.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about LineRcize – what should we know?
LineRcize is the original line dance exercise class. We teach all the latest and greatest line dances and incorporate some fitness flair. This class is a combination of dance, core training, and kickboxing creating a fun, energetic total body workout. With live music from DJSS, LineRcize feels more like a “night out” than a “workout”.
Something that sets us apart is the amazing climate and positive energy in the room every class. From Freddie’s corny jokes to jamming to live music from DJSS while stretching. It’s an overall fun and inviting atmosphere to be in. One of our main rules in class is, “have fun with this thang.” Just be yourself and enjoy your workout.
The thing we feel that people enjoy the most about our class is that we treat each other as family. We have social outings such as bowling and karaoke, and we also participate in community events. But most importantly, we pray together. After every class, we join hands and close with prayer. There’s no other class like this.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
A few traits that we feel are important to us is passion, resiliency, goal-oriented, creativity, and being open-minded. It’s important to be humble and to keep an open mind. Having the freedom to consider different perspectives, able to ask for help when they need it, give credit where credit is due, admit when we are wrong, and accept constructive criticism. These are qualities and traits that are dear to us grounded.
