Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Clark.
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am thrilled to be celebrating over 20 years of business in the Dallas Interior Design community. When I went off to college at Baylor University, I decided to study Interior Design. After college, I managed a wholesale showroom at the Dallas World Trade Center for 2 years. I helped shop owners and designers purchase items for their businesses. I learned a lot about the wholesale design industry, which helped prepare me for my next steps. In 2002, my friend and I started an interior design business and it successfully grew within a couple of years. My partner ended up moving out of state so my journey as an independent interior designer began. Until 2015, I focused more on interior decorating/design – basically everything “attached” to the home. I specialized in helping my clients select furniture, lighting, drapes, art, accessories, rugs, etc. In 2016, I began working contract for a couple of local builders and general contractors. I helped their clients select flooring, lighting, paint, hardware, plumbing, and all of the necessities connected to those projects. While I was working on those projects I learned a lot about the remodel process which led me to where I am today. I ended up meeting some great subcontractors in the design industry who wanted to partner with me on some upcoming projects. For the last 8 years, 50% of my business has been remodel and redesign focused. I really enjoy all of my decorating/design projects, but now I have a very successful remodeling/design business as well. I have the best team of subs which I work with closely and manage on each project. One of my favorite things about remodel projects is that I also help my clients make all of their selections, and I am in charge and in control of all decisions from start to finish. I offer a wide range of services, which I believe sets me apart from your typical interior designer in Dallas. The relationship with my clients throughout the design process is very important to me because we are on a journey together until the project is complete. I am very grateful for my business and how it has grown over the years. I work with the best team and we all take care of each other throughout each project. My design journey will continue into 2024, and I look forward to all that is ahead!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having steady work has been the smoothest part of my design business but I have to be careful not to take on too many projects at one time. Balance is key and not overcommitting is super important.
Managing remodel projects takes extra time and energy and as a designer I have to stay organized and on top of scheduling to assure success! When I say YES to a project I am committing myself to the challenge!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in creating beautiful interior spaces that my clients love and feel at home in. I always want my clients to feel like their spaces reflect them and their way of life. After all, my clients are spending their money and going to live in their space, so I want them to feel good about their investment. Using my creativity and design expertise is why people hire me, but having a professional and honest relationship throughout the process is important.
I continue to challenge myself to maintain open and consistent communication with my clients & subs. Details, expectations, organization and design management are key to my success.
Sets me apart – I am more of a “Hybrid Designer” – From Decorating/Design to Remodel/Design. I have been told by other industry professionals that my offering a wide range of services is a big bonus.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My family is always super supportive and encouraging throughout my project work. I am so thankful for my ex-business partner for our first years of learning the ID business together. I am also super thankful for all of my returning clients, many of which I have worked with for several years. I love all of the special relationships that have formed and grown over the years.
Lastly, my mom dabbled in Interior Design for many years. She looked at it more as a hobby and social outlet than a job. She was so incredibly gifted, amazing with relationships and I learned so much from her. She unfortunately passed away in 1997 and although she is not here to support me today I know she would be so happy to see me thriving.
I am truly thankful for all of my clients over the last 20+ years. I would not be who or where I am today without all of the design experiences I’ve been so blessed to be a part of.
