Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Baker.
Hi Kelly, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in 2020, I started a meme account for Mississippi State’s football coach at the time, Mike Leach. While everyone was stuck in their homes during the spring of 2020, meme accounts became trending. This one in particular was the trend of using funny pictures of Mike Leach and put people’s names on the photos, & that would be the “Mike Leach” that they are.
My Instagram got some traction with it, but the trend died, so I decided what I really wanted to do with this account, and the answer was food!
I love taking pictures and videos of food, and my friends suggested I turn my account into a place to upload yummy pictures and videos. I started uploading food content at the end of 2021. 2022 rolled around, and I continued to take photos and videos of places I have tried on vacations and in DFW!
Come 2023, was when I really started taking my account seriously. I work full-time in digital marketing and have had experience in roles in social media, so I decided to use my knowledge and experience toward my account. I came up with marketing strategies, places I wanted to explore, and so much more! 2023 allowed me to visit and work alongside many different small businesses, restaurants, bakeries, and coffee shops! Now, I get to experience new places in DFW and establish relationships with different chefs, bakers, owners, and other foodies, and it has been a blast! All the glory to God!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say it’s been a pretty smooth road so far. I think some of the struggles that I have encountered is feeling like I always have to put out content. When in reality, I want to post a few times a week and I shouldn’t feel pressured to post to just post, but rather post spots, foods, and places that people will enjoy. I have also gotten to meet so many other foodies on this journey, and I look up to a lot of them for their work and content.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work full-time in digital marketing for the home and furniture industry but get to create content and enjoy food and restaurants all over DFW in my free time. I review and partner with local restaurants, bakeries, companies, and shops to help the population of DFW find their next go-to spot!
I am most proud of the relationships I have built. If it wasn’t for my page, I wouldn’t have been able to meet the amazing people behind the scenes at these spots and make the friendships that I have gained from this page. I am a huge people person, so relationships mean a lot to me.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are just to continue exploring spots all over DFW & the world, making friendships along the way! I do this for fun, and I plan to keep fun in the center of it!
