Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Jones Gill.
Hi Heather, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was working as a trainer in the apartment industry, and I couldn’t help but notice how much the owner of those apartment communities were making each and every month. It really had me take a step back and ask the question: why am I not in real estate? The company I worked for went through a shift and decided to let go of some staff, and I found myself unemployed. I was newly married and a bonus mom to 3 kids. My ex-husband and I worked out a plan, and I took on the stay-at-home mom duties and directed myself toward real estate.
I found a fabulous couple who were teaching real estate investing at a local monthly meetup and quickly became friends and started learning the investing side of real estate. I came alongside them and managed the social media promotion for their real estate investment business and partnered with them on other ventures. They were influential in my decision to get my real estate license.
The past six years have been a wild ride! There were 2 years of a semi-normal market, and then COVID hit. The pandemic had us all walking a wire. We had to be mindful of protocols and be the best for our clients. It was a stressful season but a rewarding one. Grace, tenacity, and perseverance marked that season in my business.
In 2022 and 2023, I was voted best Realtor in Carrollton by Star Local Media! What an honor to have the support from former neighbors and my clients! I lived in Carrollton for a number of years and have done a fair amount of business there.
I am fortunate to work for a fantastic and forward-thinking broker, EXP Realty. I feel like the opportunities and collaboration with my brokerage are next to none, and I am very excited for how things are shaping up for 2024!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In 2023, my husband decided he wanted to end our marriage of 8.5 years. I knew things weren’t perfect, but I wasn’t quite prepared for such an abrupt bombshell. Most of 2023 had me focused on untangling our financial ties and preparing myself for the single life. I am proud to say that even though it was a year of hustle in my personal life, it has been my best year in real estate to date!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am self-employed and own my own small business as a Realtor with EXP Realty. I help people buy, sell, and invest in real estate. I have had a fair amount of relocation business and specialize in helping people right-size their living situation.
As an investor, I have managed a long-term rental, renovating homes, and running a short-term rental property.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I consider myself one of the most fortunate people on the planet! With the downturn in the economy in 2023 and the pending divorce, 2023 could have been my worst, if not last year, in real estate. I was fortunate to have great support from my managing broker, a consistent number of transactions in my business, and friends who stood by me and rallied around me when life became difficult. Seriously, there were so many miracles over the last 18 months that I have a renewed sense of hope for the future and faith that God, indeed, has my back.
