Life & Work with Mark Rios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Rios.

Mark Rios

Hi Mark, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a professional actor of 20 years. I started out my acting career on the East Coast in PA as a stage actor. After doing multiple contracts in different states, I moved back to Dallas to pursue other opportunities. About 10 years ago, I made the transition from stage to screen acting. Since that time, I’ve had multiple screen roles in film, TV, and voice acting. In the fall of 2019 (prior to Covid), I created/produced an indie mob series, “A Family Thing,” that is about to finally wrap the first season. I am the executive producer and also star as the mob boss. My character is loosely based on a family member on my mom’s side. I also have created and produced a one-act musical play about Elvis Presley. (based on true events) “The Gospel Soul of Elvis” takes a look at the spiritual side of the “King.” I also play Elvis in the show, since I’m a big fan since I was a kid. The show premiered in Dallas last year, as well as toured throughout Texas.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it hasn’t. Being a professional actor means you have to constantly be auditioning for roles. It also means you will hear the dreaded words, “I’m sorry, we’ve chosen someone else.” Or many times, you won’t hear anything at all. You have to be fine with rejection in this business. And you can’t take it personal. You have to keep on trucking, no matter what. It’s all a learning experience. All of it, the good and the bad.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an actor/writer/producer/singer. In the fall of 2019 (prior to Covid), I created/produced an indie mob series, “A Family Thing,” that is about to finally wrap the first season. I am the executive producer and also star as the mob boss. My character is loosely based on a family member on my mom’s side. We are in talks right now in trying to get it picked up. We are still booking gigs as we speak for the show.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Doing what you love to do, no matter what the cost.
