Life & Work with Bre Ferguson of Let It B

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre Ferguson.

Bre Ferguson

Hi Bre, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I was always fascinated with the entertainment industry. I loved watching interviews and listening to the radio and talk shows. I loved the aspect of feeling connected with the people I admired. When I got to college, I knew I wanted to be a part of that world, so I chose to major in Communications/Public Relations with a minor in Broadcasting. My journey started while I was in college, where I hosted my first weekly radio show. From there, I gained an interest of hosting events and public speaking. After graduating in 2015, I interned at Carter Broadcast Group, also known as “Hot 103 Jamz,” in Kansas City, MO (My Hometown) as a Community Relations Specialist. I figured the best way to get my foot in the door was to be around what I wanted to do and learn what goes on behind the scenes. From there, I ended up guest hosting on another radio station, which lead to me having my own radio show called Level Up on 90.1FM radio in Kansas City.

My heart’s desire was to always move to Texas someday. I ended up with a job offer at a major radio station in Houston, TX. At the time, I was growing in my relationship with God and felt the conviction that it wasn’t the plan He had for me, so I turned the job down. A year later, I ended up moving to Dallas and buried my entertainment/broadcasting dream. I decided I would focus on building my career in Corporate America instead. I started to volunteer with organizations and getting familiar with the city. I ended up connecting with someone who had a service organization, and they asked if I could host a bible study. I thought it was the craziest thing at the time because I’d never done anything like that before and didn’t feel qualified because I am not a “preacher”. Ironically, I never stopped writing my creative ideas and random downloads in my journal. I just so happen to have a topic that had been on my heart to discuss. After we hosted the first bible study, it turned into a bi-weekly series and events for young adults in Downtown Dallas.

We stopped hosting events right before the pandemic hit. At that time, my love for podcasting grew. I had been playing with the idea to start my own, and at the end of 2021, I created Let It B the Podcast. I went from hosting audio-only episodes to hosting and producing video episodes on YouTube in 2023. Since starting my podcast, I have also been a guest on other podcasts, hosted bible studies for organizations, and serving throughout the community with several organizations and events.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has absolutely not been a smooth journey. For starters, I was devastated to turn down the job opportunity in Houston. I thought it was my ticket into the career I’d always dreamed of. It felt like my life was falling apart after that. I couldn’t find a stable job in my hometown and was completely discouraged about my future. When I moved to Dallas, it was a mere leap of faith. I didn’t have a job lined up and didn’t have much money either. I stayed with my childhood mentor for 12 weeks before I was able to get my own place. It also took some time for me to get settled into my career field, so I job-hopped a lot with many seasons of unemployment in between.

During the pandemic, it was extremely isolating and hard to stay inspired. I ended up taking a break from podcasting for my mental health, which lasted over a year. My creativity was diminishing, and I started to feel lost again. Since relaunching the podcast, I also filed my LLC, which again was a big leap of faith. I have no idea what I’m doing most days, but I keep putting one foot in front of the other. It’s scary sometimes, but I’m learning to embrace the journey.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Nowadays, most people would associate me with my podcast, but I don’t like to put myself in a box. I am creative with a servant’s heart. I host a bi-weekly podcast called Let It B the Podcast where we discuss everything from faith, lifestyle, and the struggles of an everyday believer. I interview people that have inspired me along the journey and also those who are doing great things in the world around them. This is a transparent space where we share experiences and life lessons. It’s my hope and intention to be an inspiration and encourage others along their journey.

So far in my journey, Let It B is what I am the most proud of. For so long, I thought that God took my dream from me because I wasn’t good enough. Now I understand that He was just refining me and redirecting my path. I love that I am able to speak life into others and let them know that they are not alone. For me, getting to this point took a lot of faith, determination, hard work, and consistency. What sets me apart is that I don’t have a selfish motive to be rich, famous, or popular. I genuinely have a heart for people. I love encouraging others. I love serving others. I love the freedom that people feel after I share my testimony. That’s what it’s all about.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor has had its ups and downs for me. Sometimes, it’s hard to know who is genuine and has your best interest at heart. I would say be open-minded and also be honest with yourself first. If you present yourself at a surface level, don’t be disappointed when that’s what you get in return. Also, understand that not everyone will be able to give 100% of what you need. I have mentors for different areas of my life.

As far as networking goes, I would say you may have to get out of your comfort zone. Naturally, I am an introvert, and it takes me a while to warm up, but I still put myself out there. I would say find out what events are happening that might interest you, don’t be afraid to go alone, and make a goal to connect with at least one person while you’re out. This has been working for me.
